Videography didn't fit into our budget, but we found a company that has your guests record stuff that is automatically sent to them and then they edit it together. We decided we could squeeze that in (I think it was about $350) and it would be special since the guests created it for us. We are going to have someone record the ceremony, dances and speeches.

@Shortstack, it doesn't take the place of a really good pro of course.....but it's a damned good alternative if you want some video coverage without an intrusive beginner or having to spend for a pro. Great compromise for those on the fence or without the budget. I'd do that before hiring a budget videographer.

I never refer pros that bundle services honestly, and 2000 is very reasonable for a videographer IF you decide you want one. I'd say about half of my couples have them, and honestly, I only recommend two very good videographers. Most videos I see are pretty uninspired (and yes, I realize that to me they're just full of strangers which does make a difference).

I was whatever about having one at first too. But then I became obsessed with watching highlight videos on YouTube. After doing a lot of research, we hired someone in our price range. Around 2800 I believe and that was on the lower end of what we found. It became super important to have the ceremony, first dances, and toasts documented. I want to have that to share with our kids one day.

Do you think you will ever sit down and watch the footage? Is it something you will view and share? Do you want to relive the moment because you think everything will be a blur and you want to see the details?

If yes is the answer for any of these questions, you should get one. If no, save the money.

We are not having one and I wish we could afford one. With only 21 days to go it's the one thing I wish we were having.

We have one. Our photographer offers it as well and we got a discount for combining the two services. Growing up I used to watch my parents wedding video a lot and now that my dad has passed it makes it even more special to be able to see him. You or your children might appreciate it later.

I was on the fence about it, not because I didn't see its value, but because I had seen SO MANY bad wedding videos. I went to film school, so I was feeling like I would rather no video than a really poorly done video. But I did a lot of research and found a guy whose videos no joke made me cry, and was fairly reasonable for the area I live in (3k including a trailer and full video, plus uplighting) so I went with him. If you do decide to get one, I think it's really important to find someone whose work you actually like -- I don't know that it's worth it to have a really low quality wedding video, because then you're probably rarely going to watch it.

I definitely regret not having one. I wish I could relive the day over and over and it makes me super sad that I can only do that via photos. But not the end of the world either!

We didn't have one and I do not regret it. I know FH and I would never watch it and I know many people that paid for the videographer and never watch the video.

Also one of my Bridesmaid's Fiance recorded the ceremony for us on his phone and that was all I would have wanted recorded in the first place. Our Ceremony lasted a total of 5 minutes, 10 if you count everyone walking in and leaving. There is no way I was paying someone to come film 5-10 minutes.

I'm happy with the non-pro video we have but if you think you would miss it...then look around for ones in your budget!

I'm on the fence too, it's a lot of $$ but I really love the idea of a wedding trailer and having toasts/first dances/vows on video. Pictures are beautiful and easy to pull out if you need, but I know my mom wishes she had a video of her wedding because her father died shortly after.

Keep shopping! Our photographer doesn't include videography, and I found a great one for $995 (and I'm in Orange County CA so things are expensive here). Also, I went to a bridal show and a few weeks after the show I got an email from one of the videographers there offering 50% off packages which made her only like $700.

I'll have 70 at mine lol. With everyone having a smart phone I'll probably have a years with of footage after just the 20 minute ceremony.
