No video = regrets?

My parents agreed to pay for half of our wedding video. FH are paying for most of our wedding expenses otherwise, on top of buying a house and paying for our dog’s chemo treatments. All of these bills have me going back and forth about the video and whether we should use our money for other things. As we all know, being an adult is expensive!

I keep hearing that not getting a wedding video is a big regret for a lot of folks. Is this true? I’d love to hear some thoughts.

I couldn't justify the cost....but the very next day I had regrets because the ceremony went so fast and my husband's best friend officiated us and his speech was so beautiful and I wish I would have been able to re-listen and watch. and re-listen to the speeches from the best man & matron of honor.

But now like 4 days out I have absolutely no regrets! We were able to live in the moment and took it all in knowing we wouldn't have a video to look back on!

I was thinking the same thing and I asked my fiancé last week and he said no to the video. He said why do we need one and it's up here ( as he was pointing to his head). I do have a photographer for the ceremony, one for the Reception Hall and a Photobooth. The Photographer for the Reception is making us a photobook and I will have a photobook from the Photobooth. I hope I do not regret it either though, I see so many videos and be about to cry because the video and the music is everything. Go with your heart and also finances though. You may receive a lot of pictures from the wedding.

We didn't have one and I have no regrets. We had a lot of people record our vows with their cell phones. (Our "no phone" sign wasn't placed in a good spot, though. I think, if you have a trusted friend, have him or her record the ceremony (definitely the vow part, because for me that's the part I love the most.) If you're ok with it not being tip top professional quality and it just the minimum, you could do that.

We're not getting a video. It's something we will probably watch once or twice and then will end up gathering dust somewhere. The money can definitely be better spent elsewhere!

As someone who lost their father at an early age, watching my parents' wedding video is one of the best ways that I remember him. Pictures are great, but I watch the video for the sound of his voice and his mannerisms. It may not seem like an important expense now when you have to juggle all these other finances, but down the line you may want videos of you and your other family members that will be in attendance! Maybe check out WeddingMix and go that route? I think it's about $500.

We were not originally planning on having a videographer. However, we realized that a video will capture real life moments that photos just can’t. It will also allow us to rewatch our ceremony anytime we’d like, as well special, real life, moments with family members, specifically older ones (grandparents), that may not be around much longer. After weighing the pros & cons and researching videographers, I can’t imagine not having one. It’s actually one of the things I’m looking most forward to!

We are getting one. Idc if we only watch it once a year or once our entire life, I want to be able to sit back and cry and laugh on memories with my husband. It was no question for us. My parents got one and we only watched it once but it was so fun watching and laughing at things we didn't notice at the time (my godfather didn't know he had a bald spot until he watched my parents wedding video lol). We are also allowing a segment for anyone who wants to do a little speech so it doesn't take up time at our 3 hour reception. time is precious.

I don’t think video is absolutely necessary, as good photos are. Try to think about whether you’ll watch the video in the years to come, or whether it will just sit somewhere forgotten.
We decided to go with video because I fell in love with this particular videographer’s work. I just know that I will be watching our highlight video on repeat lol.
So it just depends on what you like & what is really important for you. I don’t think anybody can answer this except you & your FH. But it’s definitely not a necessity.
