No Sleep :(

I am very fortunate in that I most often in my life am a great sleeper. However, it makes it very apparent then when I'm not sleeping well! The day is only 8 days away so I get that I'm stressed/nervous/excited/overwhelmed but I NEED to sleep! What are your secrets? What has helped you? Or should I...

Or should I just suck it up and get over not sleeping for the next 8 days? lol!

I take Benadryl but only when I have 8 hours to sleep because it makes me groggy.

Please avoid Benadryl. Don't take medications if you don't need them. It reeks havoc on your liver and can lead to long term neurological and physical damage. Don't take Tylenol PM unless you are ill. They make a bunch of sleep aids. Even NyQuil recognized this and created ZzQuil which gives you the sleep aid minus the acetaminophen and dextromethorphan.

A long, warm bath with a book followed by a cup of extra sleepytime tea (it has valerian). Sometimes I take melatonin and if I am in pain, I will take Aleve PM to knock out the pain as well as help me to sleep. My FH swears by unisom, which helps and is basically the same thing as in Aleve PM, but I prefer to do more natural things if at all possible. I don't want to take a bunch of antihistamines for no reason... ETA: excelatlife.com has a bunch of free relaxation meditations that I also use. The mountain cabin and meadow audios almost always knock me out when I am struggling.

I have had insomnia for over 20 years now, so I have tried them all. I've recently started drinking chamomile tea with honey right before bed, and it helps, along with drugs lol (the legal kind). Valerian root is great, but very smelly, lol. Walgreen's has a sleep aid with Valerian, melatonin, and I believe passion flower, which does help.

Also, the think I have found that works the best for me is Natural Vitality Natural Calm Magnesium Supplement, it is a powder that you mix with water. It tastes kind of like watered down AlkaSeltzer, but you can get it in different flavors, I think.

Melatonin usually only works REALLY well for people who are shift workers and have to sleep at times other than bedtime, from all the research I have done.

Just an FYI, Z-quil and Unisom Sleepgels or Sleepminis are actually Benadryl (generic form) The only Unisom that isn't is the Sleep tabs, which contain another ingredient.

I've been a bad sleeper since i was a teenager, and in a pinch i go for Melatonin (though you shouldn't take it for longer than 2 weeks at a time) and Benadryl (ditto as some PPs have noted). Valerian tea helps too, and Sleepytime tea, and making sure you get a good dose of fresh air at some point every day. i totally feel your pain--in the days leading up to the wedding i had a really hard time sleeping! the night before and the night of i was basically awake all night, more excited than nervous. adrenaline helped me keep going, though i crashed hard during our honeymoon.

Hello date twin! Im not stressing too much but its been overly annoying for me to say the least. Ive been sleeping ok for the most part, and my perfect remedy has been not giving a damn. Peoole who got invitations are still asking what time the wedding is. Im like do any fucking adults read anymore? FH's aunt gave him an ultimatum regarding her new baby grand daughter coming to our adult only wedding or none of them were coming. Oh freaking well. We'll see you when we see you. Just know the madness is almost over and we have to stay sane!

It's 11:20pm where I'm at, and hopefully you're able to get some sleep. I've tried essential oils such as lavender, warm bath and some chamomile tea.

I'm not thrilled with the suggestion of prescription meds like valium or even the OTC benadryl. Valium can do a number on your head...believe me. Benadryl is an anti-allergy med that has the side effect of making the user sleepy. That's not what these meds are for, so I can't condone their use.

A nice hot cup of Valerian Tea (available at health food stores)...okay, maybe two cups.

Also, try Melatonin, the lowest dose, also available in the vitamin and supplement aisle (or ask your pharmacist). Don't overdo it, especially if you have to go to work in the morning.
