No Shows

Krystle, on February 24, 2017 at 9:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 36

So my biggest fear is people RSVP and then don't show up and we are stuck paying for a $40 plate of food for each person that didn't show up. So my FH and I were joking around about people that RSVP must also provide Credit card info incase they don't show up they pay for their own plate lmao! I just thought it was funny. Any opinions? Or other fears people may have?

I wish it were easy to hold people accountable for their actions, but sadly, it's not. Just hope for the best and invite only those you truly want to be there! My husband and I didn't have any no-shows that I remember. Fingers crossed you won't either! But if you do... Just let it roll off your shoulders and keep enjoying your day knowing the people that matter and care the most are there.

Been thinking about this too as my RSVPs are "due back" today and I have to give final numbers next week. Most close friends weddings I've been to had at most 1-2 no shows...things happen. people get sick, have car trouble, miss a flight etc. and you just cant worry too much about it. Chances are you wouldn't even notice a person or two missing! I did have one friend with 6 no-shows(but it was also a HUGE wedding)..but she also had several people bring an uninvited guest-so it worked out ok..

It's not funny. If I got that in an invitation all of it would go in the trash.

    It happens.

At my venue, we couldn't take any food out with us but they would serve the extra portions to anyone in the room who we indicated.

Talk to your venue, they can direct you.

Accept now that there will be some no shows or last minute cancellations. Its inevitable.

Obviously I assume you are joking. Actual emergencies are forgivable but just no-shows would piss me off. At almost $200 per person I'd be pissed.

I may give my final numbers to the venue with like 2 heads less just in case. But they can accommodate more and just charge accordingly but not charge less so.....

Things happen. People get sick or their kids get sick. I won't be holding no shows against my guests, even though I will be paying more than triple what you are.

I hope that you said that "joke" to only your FH.

But, yeah, no-shows happen. We had about 10.

We had 1, of 225, due to a dying father, on another continent. Our price was $175, 4 years ago. It happens ...

It's just an inherent risk of throwing a party unfortunately. ... it snowed all day for my wedding and about 20 people couldn't make it ..we literally had to eliminate a table ... nothing you can do.

Yeah...today must be the day of the bad jokes.

No shows happen. You probably won't even notice.

Shit happens, but no shows are also a byproduct of inviting everyone under the sun; in other words, people who really aren't that invested in being there to support and celebrate you. You parents' next door neighbor is not going to move heaven and earth to be at your wedding if they don't feel well or if it snows.

At 200.00 per person in my area? I'd be curating the hell outta that guest list.

Be prepared for it. Emergencies happen. People get sick. Polite people will apologize.

Anticipate and prepare for 100% attendance from those that RSVP and don't fret about the no-shows. We had quite a few no-shows and also uninvited guests. Everyone was fed and had a place to sit.

Usually venues take your number of guests either 2 weeks before or theeee week before the wedding so things like that don't happen

She said it was a joke.

Unfortunately some people will probably no show. Unfortunately you can't really do anything about it.

We had a friend no show to a friends wedding that she had to pay for him and he didn't even send a gift. I keep giving him ish that he isn't invited because he won't show up (i will be inviting him, don't worry). I'm worried about no shows just because it is a lot, well over 100 at my venue but in all reality it is likely to happen

I have had friends say they had 20-40 people no show! All 3 of those friends invited everyone they know though.

We are inviting close friends and family only so we don't expect no shows but I will cross my fingers!
