No one likes my dress options? 😩

Rosalinda, on May 8, 2021 at 2:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 35
What should I do about my party and close family not liking any of the dresses I love? I know the idea that I want but my they say I can pull of whatever I like and want me to be in a mermaid style dress because my figure but I want a princess style dress or a silky elegant type of dress. I want to please them but I wanna wear the style I want. What do I tell them? They are very opinionated.

As long as you love the dress, that’s all that matters. The magazine pictures you are looking at at mostly airbrushed models. You need to try on dresses to see what is flattering on you.

This is not something you please others with because it will show in pictures that you are unhappy. That applies to nearly every wedding decision you and fiancé make together.

You should wear whatever you want. This day is not about anyone else. Don’t try to please others.

Definitely don't go into dress shopping trying to please others!!! The farthest I would go is trying on a dress they pick out that is in a style you otherwise wouldn't pick. No obligation at all to choose that dress but trying it on says that you considered the idea and still prefer something else. At the end of the day it is your wedding, not theirs.

Agree with all the others - all that matters is that YOU love the dress. I know it’s hard to remember when surrounded by opinions, but it’s your dress, and you’re the only one wearing it - not them!

I do recommend trying on different styles though! I was dead set against a strapless dress, tried it on at someone’s request, and fell in love with it. So I would keep my mind open to trying things on, but the ultimate decision is yours Smiley smile

Honestly limit who you go shopping with to just a few people, don't bring an entire entourage because you will be overwhelmed. Maybe you can go with just your MOH at first or a close family member first and narrow it down to like 4 of 5 dresses that you really like, and then go back with the entourage and only try on those few dresses.

Don't try to please others. I hid my dress from everyone including my own mother bc I didn't want to hear any negative opinions

It’s your wedding and your photos. Choose the dress you love. Opinionated friends & family? Consider doing some trips to bridal shops alone. Much easier. They’ll love whatever you wear on your wedding date because you’ll glow.

The only thing with trying that is the fact that my godparents and mom are paying for it and they'd ask to see it. Thank you fir the advice!

At the end of the day it's your wedding your wedding dress. Get the dress you want without caring what others say. You are the only one that needs to love it. My sister in law bought a dress she didn't love but everyone else loved and she always seems to have a little resentment towards everyone who pushed her to buy that dress. She hates looking back at her wedding picture because she is always reminded of how much she actually hated her dress. My brother said that she doesn't even have the dress nicely put away it's just shoved in the back of the closet like it's trash. So remember it only matters if you love it. Get what you love

If they are paying for it and are trying to use their money to tell you what to wear, then the only thing I can tell you is to decline their money. Tell them thanks but no thanks I want a dress I AM IN LOVE WITH and if I have to pay for it myself then so be it.

You have to be sure to be happy yourself. I worked in a bridal store and watching brides put on dresses they didn't like but their mothers/ families did was awful. You could see how unhappy they were and many left without a dress that day and came back on their own to purchase a dress. I even had a bride tell her mom she would buy her own dress if she had to. Wear what you love!!!! Smiley heart

Oh no. When you go to shop look at all different dresses and pick the one you want. Don’t please anyone else. You should love the dress not a choice for anyone else. Best to try on if you find one you like sleep on the idea go back try again and if you know it’s the one when you try it on again.

Choose best friend, mom, MoH or someone real close. I would say one or two. No more than that. No need no army to help. Best of luck Smiley smile
