No makeup - crazy???

TripleM, on October 15, 2017 at 12:48 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38

I very rarely wear makeup unless I am doing a show (community theatre). If I do, it's usually a dab of concealer, some foundation powder, and a sweep of blush across my cheeks, and same color/same brush swept across my eyelids. All total, I spend maybe 5 minutes on my makeup. If it's a special occasion, I may do a bit more in the way of eyeshadow and mascara, but still not a lot. My fiancé prefers my un-made up face. My sis came over the other night so we could practice wedding makeup. She spent about 70 minutes. She worked really hard, and I don't want to hurt her feelings, but I didn't care for it. I want to feel like myself, and I want my soon to be husband to like it. He hates when girls "cake on a new face." My only concern besides hurting my sister's feelings is the pictures. I worry if I do my normal powder and eye makeup routine I will look washed out. Anyone skipping makeup entirely, or doing very little?

It's your wedding. You're most beautiful when you're comfortable in your own skin, and I think if you were to go through with all the makeup you'd feel too much like you're onstage. Be you Smiley smile

You can achieve the natural look with makeup on. The flashback from the camera is going to wash you out if you don’t have any makeup on.

I work in a profession where my picture gets taken fairly often. You need to be wearing makeup for the camera not to wash you out. I recommend having a trial with a professional. You may find someone who is certified may be better able to achieve the look you are going for,

You have to be comfortable. And I have thought about going makeup free for my wedding too. Still considering it. I take lots of pics without makeup and I like the way I look. And you may look washed out, but you may not. Some people have very strong features and don't need it. Boo- you do you. You also don't HAVE to hire a makeup artist( because those suggestions will be next). I don't have one for two reasons, I like to do my makeup and it was one more appointment I had to make.

I'm torn on this too. I'm currently leaning toward doing my usual touch of blush, eyeshadow and mascara. Talk to your photographer about your concerns too, they might have some insights. Smiley smile

You have to be comfortable, but do realize that with the digital cameras now, you probably need something.

If you look at any given photo of my couples and me, you can absolutely tell who got makeup. Do a trial or two with good people; they can manage to make you look like you in person and on film.

Flashback is something serious. I would see about very natural makeup looks. Not all makeup has to look caked on

I just messaged my photographer, who happens to be a good friend. He knows my skin tone, and the lighting our evening ceremony will have, so he will be able to tell me if my normal routine will cut it or not. My sis and I are going to play around a bit more. She is actually very good (not what she does for a living, but easily could). She just went heavier handed than I like. I am hoping we can pull off something that feels more like me.

I would schedule a trial with a professional MUA and tell them you prefer a no makeup makeup look. That way you won't look washed out on camera but you'll still look natural

You do what is best for you. I never wear makeup and plan on telling the person doing mine that I don't want a lot.

Try out different makeups, too. Airbrush tends to be lighter and not 'cakey'. I'm all for the natural look, but the cameras and flashes can make you look washed out without a little something.

Good idea, MelissaHH. And my sister just got an airbrush kit, so that is what we are trying next. I was okay with what she did with my eyes, I just couldn't handle the gobs of primer, and foundation, and concealer, and bronzer, and highlight, and contouring, and whatever else she put on. I had to wash 3 times to get it all off. I don't even wear that much on stage for a show!

It doesn't hurt to have a trial. You can always scrap the makeup for the wedding if you absolutely hate it.

For those saying that she will be washed out, if your partner is a man, did your husband wear make up too? I'm honestly curious as whenever this question arises people often say that the person won't look as good in pictures, but is this standard only applied to women? I wore make up, because I like make up. But my husband looked fine in all of our photos (he did not wear make up).

I'm going the concealer, blush and mascara route just so I don't look like death in my pictures. I have long lashes but they are fair and I want to be able to at least make it where my eyes are on my face.

Still not seeing how these arguments make any sense when you're standing next to a non-makeup-wearing groom...

I have often wondered that as well, regarding the "washed out" thing, but no one ever says the groom looks bad. I am very fair anyway, with auburn hair and freckles. There is no way I won't look pale. I just hate feeling like I "have" to be made up or somehow I will look awful. Especially since that really isn't me....

Definitely try a professional. There are ways to achieve a simple makeup look that doesn't make you look like a different person! Your pictures will look totally washed out and you will wish you had done more.... I had a friend who got married and the most makeup she wore was mascara, which was rare - but she met with a makeup artist who understood her needs and made her look stunning! She still looked like herself but it helped bring the look together and didn't make her looked washed out in her photos... I wouldn't worry too much about hurting your sisters feelings by trying a professional, because I bet she would understand- and definitely do some trials so you can test what you like and what you don't!

I don't wear much make up either. But I'm doing a natural make up look. And I'm excited with my MUA she is amazing

@TripleM, I've asked the same question on two other similar threads and it has yet to be answered lol
