No jackets for tuxes... Ok or not?

Private User, on August 17, 2015 at 5:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

So I am getting married in June in Texas and I really want my wedding party to be comfortable and chic. I love the below look for my groom and his groomsmen but I wonder if this is somehow inappropriate? If you were a guest at my wedding would you be totally aghast at the men not wearing jackets? Thanks in advance.

My men didn't not wear jackets. However I guess it depends on how formal your event it. We had a very casual/laid back wedding back wedding. The guys wore khakis, and button shirts. My husband was the only one to wear a tie.

Thanks! We are having a casual, outdoor wedding. Perhaps it will be fine with no jackets. Jackets just look so stiff and hot to me.

I think it's fine. Texas heat is brutal in the summer. We get it.

I have seen the no jackets a couple times. Both with out door weddings. It can still look classy and tasteful. You really don't want any passing out!!

Your in Texas, so you don't even have to have the vests. My FH is Texan, and if we were doing the wedding down there at the same time (Jul) I'd probably let it all relax and let them have their slacks and button downs. As it is, I think that's what we're going to do here anyway. FH might be in a jacket, but that may be it. We're expecting our guests to show up in jeans and blouses and button downs, or casual dresses.

Just fine! Especially outdoors in the summer and in TX! I'm in PA, and we are doing the same thing (different colors though) for our outdoor wedding in July.

I think for an outside wedding it's not inappropriate. How formal is your wedding?

If they're wearing suits like in the picture, no jackets can look fine. It's very casual but can work. If they are actually wearing tuxes, they really do need jackets.

No jackets for summer outdoor wedding is fine - but keep in mind, that's not actually a tuxedo... that's a suit, without the jacket. And that's different.

By contrast, it would never be appropriate to have an actual tuxedo without the jacket - by definition, formal-wear means wearing a jacket. If you are having a formal wedding, and it's happening indoors, then they need to wear jackets, IMO. Otherwise you're ok.

We're doing vests and ties only with the shirt sleeves rolled up. Bottom line is, its YOUR wedding. Does it really matter what Great Aunt Milly is going to think about your groomsmen not wearing jackets?? Nope. Do what is going to make you and your wedding party happy!

As long as they are wearing suit pants, that's fine. As Jeanne and Rebecca mentioned, they should NOT wear tuxedo pants without a jacket.

Our wedding party didn't wear jackets. DH wore a three piece, the guys just wore the vest and pants. it looked fine. we even did a more formal late winter/early spring wedding but the guys were comfortable. we are also in texas, so it was chilly but not cold. this is what DH wanted, so this is what we did. the guys were actually happy about not having to wear jackets...

ETA: a suit and a tux are different. i would not do the vest only thing with tuxes. that would look weird. you'd wanna do dress trousers with suit vests.

OMG I feel so silly with the whole tux vs suit thing! Yes I meant suits definitely not tuxes. I meant just like in the pic. So glad I didn't send them to get fitted with these instructions: tux with no jacket! Thanks ladies!!

HAHA--Jessica-- that would have been hilarious! The shop would be like "are you *sure* that's what you want??" and they'd be like "that's what she said!" Smiley tongue
