No Guestbook?

veeismeee, on January 23, 2017 at 11:31 AM Posted in Planning 0 45

Not that I don't have lots of time to figure this out, but is a guestbook worth while? Is anyone not planning to have one? What made you decide not to have one (if that is what you decided)? Does anyone that had one at their wedding still look at their guestbook? FH and I were considering having a globe for everyone to sign, and I found a neat, glass globe that I became obsessed with and the FH pointed out some practicality issues with it, and then we started questioning the whole idea of a guestbook in the first place. I like the idea of guests being able to write out their best wishes, but I don't foresee myself wanting to display a guestbook forever and ever, and I don't see myself looking back into a book if we went that route. I don't know!! Any insight is greatly appreciated!

ETA: Struggling with the words this morning! Must have the coffee!

This is what we are doing and hanging it in our house. If you don't think you will ever look at it, don't waste your money.

I'll be honest---I think guestbooks are pointless. I hate the idea of having signatures hanging in my house--it's not a keepsake that I love. I warred with myself on the idea so in the end, my mom made little cards for us and people wrote wishes on the little cards. I read them at home, and I may keep some for a scrapbook (that eventually I swear I will get done, probably, hopefully) but I'm so glad I didn't spend a lot of money on a guestbook because I can throw these out if I want and nobody will ever be the wiser.

Additionally, out of everyone I know that is married, not one single person has their guest book still displayed in their homes. I feel like that's something you enjoy around the wedding time, and a year later go "what the fuck is this still doing on my wall, I hate it" and it's hidden in the basement closet.

I am not doing one. I think they are pointless and I have never written anything meaningful in one so I am assuming most people just do the same "Congratulations!"

I thought about doing what futuremrsbacon posted but they are expensive and I also don't know where we would put it besides in the basement.

I did a photo guest book which I look at every now and then because I like the photos and seeing the signatures is a fun, sweet surprise. I used a groupon to buy so it wasn't a ton of money.

We are only having a guestbook because it comes with our photobooth package. I wouldnt want a bunch of signatures hanging on my wall and this is a copy of each photobooth pic with the peoples names and note next to it. I can put that away with my other photo albums.

@AMW I can definitely see FH and I saying the same thing that you mentioned about "WTF is this still doing on my wall???" As FH put it: "All I am going to think about when I see it is: Oh, look at this sweet autograph from my uncle."

My mom suggested having advice cards printed up, but we'll see. I do like the idea of little, individual notes, but I can see those sitting somewhere, never seeing the light of day again (poor little notes). Good luck with your scrapbook!!

@Miami... I figured at best we'd just get people's signatures, but seeing "Congratulations" 150 times is definitely a bit much.

@Ebony502 and @Sara... I can see some potential with photos. The photo booth we're looking at has an add-on for a photo book, but that's an extra $125 :\

I got a free photobook from Shutterfly that I'm using as a guestbook. If anything, it will just go in the box with all the other wedding photos.

I spent less than $30 on a photobook from mixbook. I think it's worth it if you do something simple.

I think we're going to buy a leather journal with the leather tie that wraps around. Something simple that I can stick on my bookshelf and pull out years from now if I want to. I personally don't want something to put up on my wall but then again, a lot of people do.

I have been to a couple weddings that didn't have one and it really doesn't matter. I think if you're trying to find any way to cut the budget, cut the guestbook. Or just go buy a cheap notebook.

It isn't entirely a budget thing. There's room to have one, but I just don't know if it's that necessary/important. I'm leaning towards not having one, but I'm just wondering if it will be something that I would regret. Again, I have plenty of time to decide, but wanted to hear some additional thoughts on the matter Smiley smile I tend to be the sentimental type, so it's surprising that I'm at a point where I don't really want a guestbook, but I'm also all about not leaving things behind to collect dust.

It totally isn't necessary. You'll have pictures so you'll know who was there, lol. If you are on the fence or don't feel strongly about it, don't do it. You'll have so much more to do if you can scratch this off the list go for it!

Not doing one because I know I think it's a wast of money, I don't care for having them displayed in the home and if it's just going to gather dust there is no point spending money on it.

We are not having one. Just more stuff to throw in a box and never look at again. I'm trying to limit the "keep sakes" as much as possible. I tend to hold on to too much sentimental stuff and I just don't have room. I'll have my guest list in a spreadsheet. I don't need a book full of names.

We are most likely doing messages in a bottle to read on our 1 year anniversary. Maybe that's kind of like a guest book? Not really sure.

We were in the same boat. Loved the tree leaf idea with a background we really enjoyed. But then thought, how long would we actually hang it before taking down. I feel like it's weird having their names hanging on a wall. We decided to get a small (but nice) book with blank pages (no lines) and they can just leave their name or write us a note if they choose to. The cover was custom so I can put it next to our wedding picture when we get them.

Not a fan of the traditional guest books either. The only reason we are doing one is because we found something that went with our vineyard theme. A shadow box that people can sign a cork and place in it.

I was thinking a globe too. Found a standing one for free and will paint it up. What technicalities does your FH see with the glass globe?

I'm into the idea of Christmas ornaments. We only have about 20 guests, so I may be able to find a couple larger glass balls for people to sign.
