No guest book?

I'm leaning towards not having a guest book. However, I don't know proper wedding etiquette. Am I supposed to send thank you cards to all the guests who attended? I'm thinking without the guest book I might forget some people or end up sending to people who didn't even attend if I just went by...

I'm thinking without the guest book I might forget some people or end up sending to people who didn't even attend if I just went by invitees or those who RSVP'd. I will obviously be sending thank you cards to everyone who gave a gift, but wasn't sure about those who didn't. Probably rude, but I almost feel like they should be thanking me for the food, entertainment, favors, etc.

I'm doing something similar to Libragurl's idea. I'm not sure what I would do with a guestbook and everyone's signature - ??

As far as sending out thank you notes for simply attending the wedding? I've attended a lot of weddings, and signed a lot of guestbooks, and I've never received a thank you for simply attending. Of course, I always send/bring a gift, and it's rare I receive any type of thank you for that!

We have a picture with a mat around it to sign. No guest book - waste of time & money. I like that idea of people signing the escort cards. I was think of also putting out cards for well wishes to drop in the card box.

No, you only send thank you cards to those who brought/sent a gift.

No problem not having a guest book.

I'm going to cut out 5x5 pieces of fabric for guests to write on. After the wedding I'm going to embroider what they wrote on it and sew it all together to make a quilt.

I think your typical guestbooks with line after line can be a little pointless. Still, I wanted a way to remember who was at the wedding...so I went with a custom designed, coffee-table style, photo guest book that introduced my theme and colors to the guests, as well as let them write wishes and messages. I still display it on my coffee-table 2 years later.

Since then, I've started a business offering the service to brides nationwide, so if you're interested check us out!

Most importantly...remember it's YOUR day, and you should do what YOU want to do! Have a blast planning!

I agree with the prior answers that you can't rely on the guestbook to be an accurate count of who came and who didn't. If you are doing table escort cards though, you'll probably be able to easily see which ones are still left on the table, though this is not 100% reliable. I think with 100 guests though, you'll have a good idea.

If the guestbook isn't for the purpose of getting an accurate count, one way to ensure your guestbook won't end up at the bottom of the closet is to consider a photo guestbook like the prior response suggested. I took photos from our photographer's engagement session (which was thrown in my package) and created a photo guestbook which our guests signed. Many of them left cute and fun messages. I have some photos of it on my Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/photobookgirl/sets/72157624104944446/

Lots of photo book publishers have deals and you can probably do a nice one for about $25 to $30. It's not hard to do using their free software.
