No Father for the Father/Daughter dance. - what to do?

Ginny, on July 15, 2011 at 11:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

My father has passed away, but I would still like to do something for the dance. Is it bad etiquette to have someone else "stand-in" during the dance?

Do you have a brother? You could dance in his honor. The DJ could say that to introduce you.

I think dancing with a brother, uncle, father figure could be ok. However it may be pretty emotional. If you think it might be really hard emotionally on you it might be better to find another way to honor your father. I'm sure he wouldn't want you to be sad on your wedding day!

You could have a favorite song of his played and everyone can dance or listen to in his honor. If you dont know a fave song maybe just find one that reminds you of good memories and happy times you shared with him.

If this tradition (or any other) doesn't work for you, you can just skip it. Trust me, you will still end up legally married.

My dad passed away when I was 16. I'm gonna be dancing with my uncle and possibly my future fil. One sone is gonna be Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison...my dad used to sing that to me all the time like 20+ years ago.

My father and I don't talk and he will not be coming to the wedding, so I decided to dance with my FFIL. My FH's mother passed away in 2009, so he'll be dancing with my mom.

Skip it, or dance with someone else - is there another man who has been close to you throughout your life?

I was just thinking about this same question so I'm glad I stumbled upon this. Unforunately, I haven't spoken with my father in two years and he isn't coming to the wedding. My brother is walking me down the aisle, but I wasn't sure if dancing with him was "appropriate". What song would you chose when dancing with your brother during what is normally the father-daughter dance?

Sarah- You've Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story would be a cute song to dance with your brother to. I have been to two weddings where the groom and his mother danced to that song.

My father passed away too, so I'm skipping the dance alltogether, like 2d bride said, if it doesn't work for you, you can skip it you'll still be married, lol

My little sis is my MOH and she really likes this one song, so i'm going to be dancing with her in substitution of the b/fob dance.

We are going through the same thing, the idea we had was to have a slide show with pictures during a song for his memory. We are also having my stepmother whom I'm very close with dance in his stead.
