FH and I just went to the destination of our wedding this weekend and got a lot done however one unfortunate thing happened... We checked out the venue and realized we probably don't have room for a DJ. We started talking about it and thought maybe we can save the $1200 and just use an Ipod since the room is so small and we only have 50 guests...

Thoughts on using an Ipod for the dance??

There are quite a few disadvantages on using an IPOD.

    1. Someone will have to manage the playlist to play the songs on Cue for cake cutting, Dances, etc.

    2. If the venue does not already have a sound system, someone will need to rent the system. Most Rental places charge an additional fee for delivery/setup. You would still need someone to manage the sound equipment.

    3. Ipods cannot read the crowd or MC.

    4. Most venues require the DJ to have liability insurance, so you may need to purchase and provide this yourself for your own wedding.$1/2 Mill liability coverage is the norm.

    5. Most DJ's provide dance floor lighting included in their price or for an additional charge. You may need to rent/purchase lighting separately if needed.

These are some real issues that must be considered.

We aren't using a dj at all. In fact a very close friend and her husband play in a band and sing and have offered to play the guitar and keyboard and sing as our wedding songs. Other then that, between my dad and my fh, we are using their laptops and ipod for the rest of the music. This way it really allows us to control the music and what can and won't be played. We too are only having about 50 ppl and I personaly think a dj would be overkill.
