No dj due to covid

Ashley, on March 17, 2021 at 10:13 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Hi!
We are getting married May 1, 2021. We’re having a small wedding (~35 people due to current restrictions in pa). We also only have the venue for about 4 hours for the ceremony and dinner. In order to try to keep people distanced, we’re not planning on having a dj. I’m going to have some music playing so it’s not silent and awkward. Is this acceptable? Do we tell people there won’t be a dj? Will this be weird?

I think having background music playing is a great idea! And I don't think you necessarily need to announce it to guests ahead of time that you won't have a DJ. Do you have other forms of entertainment planned? Such as, the shoe game, or lawn games, or a trivia game?

Let guests mingle at their tables with background music from an Itunes playlist. It's pretty common to do that for non dancing receptions. You don't need to announce it

Im also having a very small reception and not doing a dj. It seemed like a waste of money especially since dance floors are still not allowed where I am. I initially looked into just having a single musician (aka piano player/singer) but also thought that may be a waste. Are you just going to use a stereo system and how are you handling first dance or parent dances if any?

Our Venue has a Bluetooth speaker we can use and the day of coordinator can change playlists as needed. We’re not doing any special dances. In pa, any vendors count toward the total people in the room so we didn’t want to give up a guest spot for a vendor

We swapped out the DJ for dueling pianos as it is very likely people will need to stay seated the whole event with no dance floor... we just didn't want to take on another task for the wedding so we hired them to entertain. We aren't telling people. I think having music is perfectly acceptable. I'm not much for small talk, but I hear people really just like to mingle and visit with other people at weddings and I think it is probably right. People will understand!

Thanks! I don't think there will be a ton of time left after the ceremony, dinner, and cake so I feel like people can mingle if they're comfortable with that. We only have the room for 4 hours total.

If you can make it work and have the means to do so, you do you.
