No DJ at ceremony

Rebecca, on May 24, 2013 at 6:00 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

Our Dj is only doing the reception. Any ideas on how to do music for the ceremony?

Some DJs will set up a sound system in a second location for $100 or so. We're planning to do that and just have an iPod. I'm not sure who will be in charge of pressing play, yet, though.

I hired a violin and cello players for my ceremony. It was only a couple hundred for both and I think it will be beautiful and special.

Our ceremony is in a church. I would like to stay away from having to pay anyone else as we have almost everything paid off for the wedding. Anyone doing the music themselves?

My sister had my bf at the time running the sound. Ask someone you trust (maybe a bridesmaid's bf or something) who wouldn't be upset about "missing" the ceremony to run the music for you. Burn all the music you want played to a disk (or hook up an iPod or whatever if the church has that capability). Make sure the person running the music goes over how to work the sound system with the church people during your rehearsal. There's a chance the someone at the church will volunteer to do this for you. Just make sure they know which songs to play when.

For my sister's wedding, she had 15-20 mins of entrance music, then specific songs for other stuff (processional, bridal march, unity lighting, etc.).

Does the church offer to have someone play music? My church came with their organist and I found soeone to sing during the ceremony.

Usually the church has an organist who will charge about $50 - not too much. If it is, you will have to put an ipod on their sound system and have a friend play music at the appropriate times (give them a ceremony program and include song name, i.e.

Bride walks down the aisle to 'Canon in D Minor'

Minister says blessing and opening remarks (play instrumental version of 'Ave Maria' softly so that his voice can be heard

    etc.

We hired a harpist -- it was surprisingly affordable, and she did a beautiful job.

I love classical instruments (string quartet, harp, etc) for ceremony music. The challenge is whether or not you want your vows to be heard/shared.

Since it's in a church, talk to them about hiring their organist or if they have anyone that they can recommend. Through my church I was able to get my organist for $150.

Our ceremony spot doesn't have electricity as far as I know, so we'll probably set up a boombox to be operate by someone.
