No alcohol for a daytime wedding?

LanaKane, on October 6, 2017 at 6:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

Is it odd to offer a full open bar for a lunch reception? I just found out today it might be possible to have our bar open the whole reception instead of 3 out of 4 hours (YAY!!!). My friend thought it was weird that I was even offering alcohol as it will be lunchtime (11am-4pm).

Nope! Alcohol is a key part of hosting a wedding.

Go for the open bar, your guests will thank you!

Nothing like a martini with lunch! Or a whiskey sour. Or a glass of wine. So many options.

I agree with @Asta. It's not a celebration without alcohol! You may not need as much or as many options (or for as long), but if you want it, go for it!

I prefer day time drinking. Get to wake up the next day not hideously hung over.

We did a brunch reception, and along with beer and wine we offered mimosas and bloody Marys.

Well, think about it this way. Restaurants that are open for lunch, with full bars, do not wait until 5PM to break out the bourbon. ;-)

I do not find a full bar at a daytime reception to be odd. I think it is great!

Go for it, girl! I wouldn't even find a brunch wedding with alcohol to be weird, considering how popular mimosas and such are lately. If people aren't in the mood for drinking with lunch, they don't have to.

I love day drinking! I could sip on mimosas all day. I would go with the full bar. It will keep your guests happy.

I wouldn't be shocked if it was beer and wine only, that would be fine.

Hard alcohol is usually a night time thing, but beer, wine and champagne....all day long.

Mimosa's and wine would be a fav I am willing to bet.

Around my area we day drink all summer long (and fall, winter and spring when my mother is around lol) so I do not think it is weird at all. I am having a brunch wedding so drinks will be on deck from 12:30p-5p lol

If you don't think it's worth it to pay for a certain amount of hours per person... maybe you can do a consumption bar to save on money?

My brother got married last weekend, it was a Sunday wedding 11am-5pm. They had a full open bar and let me tell you, I'm pretty sure the venue lost money on us. So yes...do it.

Day drinking is how I got through law school! Seriously though, mimosas and bloody Mary's are awesome and really only work for daytime drinking. Definitely not weird to have an open bar for your lunchtime wedding. Your guests will thank you for it.

    Day drinking FTW.

My first wedding was a lunchtime to-do and my father insisted on a top shelf open bar...so very WW-approved.
