nj Brides: Who Files Signed Marriage License

Hannah, on May 19, 2019 at 9:35 PM Posted in New Jersey Planning 0 1
Hello all,

I'm getting married in NJ soon and I know NJ has a 72 hour waiting period for the marriage license. The day of the wedding, we have to sign it along with the officiant and our 2 witnesses. My question is about what happens after. FH's uncle got ordained online to officiate our wedding, so he hasn't done this before. Is it his responsibility to file it with the county clerk? Or do we have to? Also, is it the county or the township where you apply for your marriage license? I just want to make sure everything is legal when all is said and done!

    Hi there Hannah Smiley smile

That's so sweet your FH's uncle for ordained for your wedding!

Normally the officiant would file for you, however, since your officiant isn’t a professional it would be best if you check with your local county courthouse to make sure everything is done legally.

The State of New Jersey Government website may offer you some insights also Smiley smile
