Nicer way to say... "Choose a Seat, Not a Side"

Danielle, on January 13, 2013 at 2:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

My family is way larger than FH's and seating would look silly if we did it traditionally (brides on ones side, grooms on other)... I like the idea of this sign but I think that the wording is a bit... rude? I like the first part "as two families become one..." but can anyone thing of better wording for the last part.

Ideas?

For the ceremony... reception .... maybe use for both?

    Find a seat

stay as long as you can.

    We are all friends here

so there is no seating plan.

    or

"Friends of the Bride, Friends of the Groom, Sit together, there's plenty of room."

As two families become one we ask that you choose a seat not a side.

The one that we are using is kind of like the one that Haley posted

    Come as you are

Stay as long as you can

    We're all family

    So no seating plan

    Two families are becoming one

No need to select a side,

    Just select a seat!

    Names and wedding date

I really like the "Friends of the Bride, Friends of the Groom, Sit together, there's plenty of room." ... it is for the ceremony specifically - for the reception we are using escort cards... that's awesome, thanks!!

I personal hate the whole "pick a seat not a side thing" (or any version like it that is telling people it is ok to sit anywhere during the ceremony). I think it's cheesy and being done too much. Every time I go to a wedding, I joke on the way there if we are going to see "that" sign. When we do, I roll my eyes. I think people can figure out how to sit and already know that they can sit wherever (not like the seating police are going to come after them). If seats on the side they want to sit on are taken, I'm sure they can figure out to sit on the other side. Not trying to sound harsh, but It's just a pet peeve of mine....sorry.

Jenny, I think in some cases the problem is the disparity in the number of people there "for" either the bride or groom. My family is gigantic. My fiancees family is not. I don't want to sanctuary to look like the one in My Big Fat Greek Wedding (standing room only on the left, empty on the right) because that makes people feel uncomfortable if they're on the empty side.
