Newspaper announcement?

Kimberly, on August 28, 2013 at 3:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

So ... I'm kind of want to put an announcement in our local paper. I want every printed memory of this entire experience that I can get for my future kids and maybe family who can't attend.

How many of you guys did this? And ideas on wording?

    You can google for wording.

I'd do it if it was free, but it's really $$$$ to put a wedding in our newspaper.

We are planning on putting our picture in the paper AFTER our wedding. we just want to tell a little about ourselves and about the wedding. nothing elaborate. i just didn't want people that we didn't invite and haven't seen in 10+ years to suddenly call us up and be like "oh i saw you're getting married in the paper. when is it?"...lol.

I was going through a box of DIY supplies last night from my first wedding in 2000. I found our (long forgotten about) engagement announcement we (apparently?) put in our local paper. Not going that route this time around because we kind of forget newspapers even exist. It may be an interesting memento because by the time your future children can appreciate the announcement, I imagine they'll be pondering the question, "what' a newspaper?"

My mom paid to put our engagement in the paper, she was so excited, so I cant help with prices. However, it was really fun to see/keep a cutout of our picture in the paper!

We just submitted something online to our local paper. Their form asked our parents names, our education, our achievements, and then a little information. We just added something small about us and our wedding. This was free.

We looked into the Seattle Times, but it was like $60 per inch plus $80 for a picture, or something crazy like that...

I'm not doing it. I don't need people in my hometown seeing it cause they aren't invited! ha

I don't know how much information is usually included, but about 4 months ago house in my neighborhood was broken into after they put a funeral announcement in the paper including when and where the funeral would be held.

It would be nice to have the keep-sake memory, but just use some caution as well! Good luck!

I refused to let my mom put an engagement announcement in the newspaper. I didn't really want my entire hometown to know when and where I am getting married. I am sure she will want to do the wedding annoucement though, and I guess I am ok with that. The newspaper actually has an online form that you submit your wedding info to, and they write it up for you. You can also upload a photo. I think that it is free. It is a very small, local newspaper though.

    Haha @kysweetheart and @STBMsMullings

I just don't think that people I know who would show up to the wedding with no invite after reading it in the newspaper even read the newspaper.

I did one, Mine basically stated who was getting married and when, our parents names and where we grew up, and what we do for our careers. It also gave a brief description of the venue and my dress. Include any vendors you want to reference, and a nice photo of the two of you.

I think FHs grandparents will put an announcement after the wedding in a newspaper - but we will just leave it to them

Me getting engaged made it to my hometown paper - we didn't put it in it was 'news' (actually my firstFIL is the editor and wrote it)

If others werent doing it we wouldn't have bothered.

I am but I'm keeping important details vague. All I'm putting is that its going to be in "Summer of 2014" and it'll be held in Wyoming. That's all anyone needs to know.
