New Remarriage License? Or keep old?

Mrs. Ramos, on November 14, 2013 at 4:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

I'm debating whether or not to get a new re-marriage license for our official wedding. Our Bishop stated we could use a remarriage license or he could just stamp the one we already have with the church logo as well as the ceremony date. This is our 3rd wedding, our most recent being this past May. Anyone in our shoes or anyone with advise?

If you already have a marriage license from when you actually got married, then why get a new one? You're still married. I'd just use the one that validated your marriage the first time.

Erica the first one we still have but that 'marriage' was technically dissolved through our divorce. Should I use the 2nd one from this may?

Did you get legally re-married in May? If so, nothing needs to be done with that marriage certificate.

Your officiant for an unofficial ceremony can give you an unofficial certificate. That's what I do for renewal of wedding vows.

If you got a marriage license in May and have not used it yet, it may have expired by now.

I think they were married one tims then divorced then decided to get married again but only went to the court the 2 nd time and are now having the wedding where people will attend which would technically be wedding #3

So, this wedding is not where you are getting LEGALLY married, it's a church ceremony?

Because your marriage license is a legal document. If you are currently married, you will not be able to get another marriage license from the court. You can create a certificate as a keepsake on a computer, but that is still different from the LEGAL license.

If you are NOT currently legally married (which I doubt if you had a wedding as recently as May), then you WILL need a marriage license to be legally married.

Lmao! Ladies I was LEGALLY married in 2009 then briefly divorced in 2012. We got LEGALLY remarried again in may of this year. Both times have been legal through justice of peace courts. @Amy A and JustReenski, NJ DOES offers remarriage certificates for those wanting to renew.

@ Andrea...yes that's how it was. This time we want a real blessing.

Just ask your officiant to sign a "decorative" unofficial certificate.

It sounds, then, that a remarriage certificate is different than a remarriage license (your thread title.) So, then, yes, go ahead and get a certificate if it has no bearing on the legality of the marriage.

It won't change the legality of it. But it's an official document used by the system here. Of course for an additional fee. I just wasn't sure if we really shud get it or stamp our marriage license with the bishop's stamp.
