Never loved my wedding dress... now having regrets buying it?

Never loved my wedding dress... now having regrets buying it? 1

Please tell me I am not alone in this. I went shopping with my mom (who hates shopping, so mistake number 1). I tried on several dresses and found one that I kinda liked that was ridiculously cheap (under $200). My mom expressed she thought it was beautiful and I could tell she wanted to be done and leave. We discussed it, and since it was black Friday and the sale would end at the end of the day, I caved and bought the dress. Now, I am 5 months from my wedding day. The dress hasn't been altered yet and I really don't love myself in the dress, or the dress itself.

Of course, financially, buying a new dress could happen, but I can't really justify spending that kind of money on something I will wear just one day (possibly 2 if I wear it on our rescheduled reception day since we cut our guest list for the original wedding date due to COVID-19).

I just want to know, am I alone in this feeling? If someone else experienced this, how did you move on from it?

Do you think it's because of the fit? when you get it altered and it fits right on you, it DOES change the look of the dress and how you feel about it so that could be one thing

Maybe. Idk, when she pinned it tighter on me at the shop I still didn't have that "I love this dress!" feeling.

Do you think accessorizing it will help? E.g a belt or jewelry

It’s a beautiful dress and it looks beautiful on you. Can you figure out WHY you don’t like it? Then maybe you can fix those elements.

I think the dress is very pretty but if you don’t love it I don’t think it’s hurt to look some more. Even though it’s a one time dress you don’t want to look back and always have regret. I’ve seen some great things on here about lulus and azazie just to name a couple sites that other brides have had a lot of success with

If you don’t feel happy with your dress, you can find a replacement online and sell the previous one. Since you haven’t alter your dress, do you know if you can still return it? Might not hurt to ask....

It might only be one day but those wedding photos last forever and presumably will be all over your home and/or office. I'd just go shopping until I found something I actually loved. But then again, I LOVE wedding dress shopping so visiting a ton of stores and trying on lots of dresses doesn't stress me out at all (with thousands upon thousands of dresses out there, it's impossible you won't eventually fall in love with a dress).

Agree. I started to have some doubts about the dress I got and realized it was the neckline that was concerning me. One simple fix later and now I am excited to wear it.

I had dress regrets. I bought a dress I reasonably liked a lot of things about on sale. I didn’t love it.

So now I’ve ordered the dress that I love. I don’t want to look back and have regrets.

I had a similar issue. I wanted a black and white dress. I’ve known this way before I even met my FH. I started doing research after I got engaged and really fell in love with a nude dress with black overlay. I went to a shop that sells it just to find out it’s double my budget and there’s no way I could swing it. I went ahead and tried on other dresses. I’ve always been bigger, but at that time I was only 3 months postpartum and breastfeeding. The consultant made me feel absolutely terrible about myself by bringing in dresses 5 sizes to small and 8 sizes to big. Either way I was struggling to tell how they would actually fit. I wound up crying and not in a happy way. Anyway... long story short after I cried she finally brought in a dress closer to my size. My family I brought with me cried and said they loved it. I was so frustrated that even though it wasn’t what I wanted I bought it anyway because my family loved it and I felt that was the best I would get. The dress is beautiful and looks good on me, but it’s not what I wanted and I’m not in love with it. I’m adding black accessories and sleeves to it... I’m hoping that changes my feelings towards it. I have also lost 31lbs since then. I’m hoping if I feel better about myself it will change the way I feel in the dress. I can’t afford another dress so I have to make it work. You are not alone! Keep your head up, you will look amazing on your day.
