First you have to breathe and get ready for the ride. Then decide if you want to hire a planner or do everything yourself. Once that's done, decide on a budget and pick a date. Then you can scope out venues. Hope this helps

Chip away at it bit by bit. Pick one thing and focus on it. It will all unravel!

There’s a checklist you can utilize on here and find in your profile. It has worked amazingly for me.

If you are a busy bee or have a high stress level I would say have a longer engagement (over a year) to plan and take your time so you don't get too stressed! First budget then venue, make a list of your most important vendors. Know your color choices and theme/style! That will help with venue, color scheme, etc.

Congrats! I definitely advise setting a budget first. Do you have any ideas yet? For example, we knew we wanted to get married in the mountains and I wanted a fall wedding. I'm finding that the more decisions I make the more things are starting to fall into place. I agree with a previous poster that a longer engagement takes some stress and pressure off in the beginning - since I wanted a fall wedding and we got engaged in February my choice was to try to plan a wedding in 6 months or wait until next year, and 18 months sounded so much less stressful. Once you have a budget, I found the next step for me was to get a rough estimate of the number of guests because that helps narrow down a venue- some venues I looked at couldn't accommodate the number of guests we wanted and some were going to be too expensive based on the number of guests and their price per guest. The checklist on wedding wire has also been pretty helpful, and there are SO many free resources out there you can take advantage of. First step though, enjoy your engagement!
