Need some Help!! How Much to Buy!!!

Mrs Gonzales, on July 5, 2011 at 10:07 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

I am trying to figure out how much beer and soda to buy. I am inviting 114 people but I know of at least 16 people who will not be coming. How much to I buy??? Of the 98 people left 9-10 are children.

Update: I dont have a bartender yet. I want to start buying the soda this week because it is on sale.

I'd wait to buy the alcohol until the RSVPs come back. But the amount will vary based on your guests. You know them- do they drink alot, or not very much at all?

Who will serve the alcohol? Are you just buying beer, or providing other drinks as well?

This is a question for your bartender to answer.

I am having soda, beer, wine and a little bit of liquor. I dont have a bartender yet, still searching for one that doesnt break the bank. I wanted to start buying the soda at least because it is on sale for a really good price this week.

Your bartender may have fountain soda equipment which would be cheaper than canned soda and less wasteful.

I would also suggest doing a light-colored punch for the kids (and adults). You can do that very inexpensively.

I would buy more than you think you need. If you have leftover soda you can drink it after the wedding. If you do kegs, you can have a couple extra "on reserve" that you only have to pay for if you use.

The hall we are using doesn't have fountain soda equipment and they have a keg but we don't have access to it or the tap that comes with it. We will not be handing the cans to the guests, they will be opened by the bartender and poured into a cup then the can will be put behind the bar.

Buying the soda while it is on sale, is a good idea! I suggest 2 liters, as cans can be a waste.

Re the beer, we are doing our own bar as well. Initially, we decided to go with 1/2 kegs. However, since are having only 60 guests, and most of them are hard liquor drinkers, we have gone heavy on the hard liquor, and lighter on the beer. If you are doing cases, I would go with a variety. You know your guests likes and dislikes better than we do. The beers we will include are Blue Moon, Yuengling and Coors Light. We have also considered buying from a local Vermont micro brew. But, that is still up in the air.

    Good luck with the bar!

Just a reminder on the sodas and beer- if you are buying in advance, don't buy anything refrigerated! If you buy it cold, then let it warm up, it will go flat. With sodas, it's that big a deal since most are not chilled prior to purchase anyway. But when it comes time to buy beer- buy from a liquor store and buy unrefrigerated!

I will defintely be buying everything unrefrigirated. I was doing some research about whether to do cans or 2 liters and everything says to do cans because the 2 liters will go flat faster and easier.

LOL, We started buying alcohol the month we got engaged, One wine bottle, and a bottle of tequila, and a bottle of something else per month, beer will come later since I think it can go bad, not sure. I have a GL of about 200. And we are all pretty heavy drinkers. So I think it will also depend on how much people drink. Good Luck. =)

And for the drinks, we are making Jamaica, lemonade, and Ice tea, and getting waterbottles. No Sodas. Mom and I will be making the drinks a week in advance and storing them in the 2 liter bottles to add whenever the container w/ each drink gets empty.
