Need help... Venue completely changed the menu!

Ashlyn, on April 7, 2024 at 9:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

I found out our wedding venue changed their menu completely and they didn't even notify us. The first menu that we received when we booked the venue was filled with options like hors d'oeuvres, plated dinner, buffet dinner, desserts, alcohol, etc... The new menu I found that was updated over a month ago is just alcohol, hors d'oeuvres and snacks.

What do we do? We planned a sit down dinner for our reception and they completely changed the menu. There's NO dinner options. We've called many times and emailed but haven't heard anything yet. They haven't even emailed or called us back to figure out a solution.

Did you already sign the contract? Does the contract say dinner on it and were you charged for dinner meals for the guests?

Not specifically... We ended up canceling our contract and found a new venue!

Do you have a day of coordinator who can reach them on your behalf? Those are multiple red flags. A venue who refuses to communicate with clients and changes the menu with no warning, neither are a good fit for anyone. Is there any way you can go to their office to speak to them since they are avoiding phone calls? If you have done everything you can to reach out and they still don’t respond, call the consumer reports department at the local news station and explain what is going on. They can investigate for you. The state attorney general’s office does the same due diligence for you once you have exhausted all options on your own.

How far are you from your wedding day? What does your contract say? If the venue didn’t give you one, then that’s a red flag as well and you should not be on the hook to pay for their mistakes. Are you able to eat the costs at this point and hire a local community center with drop off caterers?

It is great you found a new venue. It seems there are not too many venues being reported that cause so much trouble. Last year it probably would have been difficult to find another venue. Is the new one some place you had considered before?
