Need help finding a complimentary color for a Wine/Purple Plum

nikki , on January 24, 2011 at 10:21 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 33

My Bridesmaid dresses are super cute & 100% rewearable - they are actually reminiscent of a cocktail dress more so than a traditional bridesmaid dress. If anyone wants to view: www.57grand.com The style is Perry & the color is Purple Plum, which to me is a Wine or Burgundy color. The girls are turning the sash around so it is visible from the front. The model in the picture actually does not do this dress much justice - only 2 of my BM's liked the dress when i emailed it to them but when they tried it on, it looked amazing on all body types. I am getting married at the end of Sept. so I was trying to steer away from strapless. Anywaaaay... I am now trying to find a color that would compliment the dress for shoes & I am stuck! The sample dress was black & 1 girl tried on hot pink shoes & I really liked the idea of the fun contrast but can't think of anything that would work with my selected color. I am also not opposed to doing a more traditional shoe color either. Help me if you can!

    1st, your color wheel.

2nd, my girls wore silver with their eggplant dresses.

3rd, a fun contrast to purple... yellow, green. Just look at the wheel & play around.

Thanks for the color wheel!! Are you supposed to pick colors on the opposite side? Forget how it works! We initially thought silver too but I don't think that color would work considering the summer tan will probably be faded by then. My color is more Cabernet/Burgundy than purple, that is what is making it tricky!

I'm doing the same main color! a deep plum/purple and silver and that sort of lime green/yellow are my accent colors. If you google "purple, silver, and green wedding" you get a ton of gorgeous results!!! I think the gren shoes would be a fun pop but if you are looking more simple silver is the way to go!

I really love the burgundy and green! You could also do a soft pink, autumn orange, or gold.

Plum would look good with a burnt orange for sure.

    Or a pale green.

But I love it with gold! It looks very regal.

Alba... I think I am leaning toward that look although that teeny part of me wants to do something fun & a bit dramatic. I think with the dress choice I have to be careful on going the fun route though. I'm torn! Thanks for everyone's ideas... you've got my wheels turning Smiley smile

I am doing that color as well. My complimentary color is chartruese, a very bright green like lime or kiwi colored. I LOVE IT!! Originally i didn't think i would. My girls are wearing Silver strappy heels. I don't have the dresses in yet, but here are the ties with our favors(green and purple personalized lollipops)

Have you picked any flowers yet? You can pick the shoes' color to go along with your flower choices. Or are you going to pick the flowers to match the shoes? Flowers can get expensive if you don't pick what is in season, so I would think up a color scheme with your flowers and then pick the shoe from there.

http://www.freshroses.com/sept.html flowers in season in Sept.

black calla lilies, burgundy & purple roses, fuchsia dendrobium & phalaenopsis orchids, plum & hot pink stock flower, hot pink gerbera daisies & black jewels & crystals for accent
