Me and my fiancee have been trying to find a photographer who will supply Tiffs. But no one will provide anything but jpegs. The problem is that we'll only be able to get high-quality prints with Tiffs. Jpegs are for Web-based photos, not for professional prints. It seems like photographers want us...

It seems like photographers want us to come to them only for prints.

Hi Glenn, I don't think you're going to find a photographer willing to give you what you're asking for, for all the reasons that everyone else has already mentioned. You're either going to have to live with the jpegs and use a commercial printing service like the rest of us plebes, or just buy the prints through your photographer.

Then go find a photographer you know that will provide that. I find it impossible to think you're a pro and don't know another pro. There's a reason they don't provide tiffs. It's been explained. It's also been explained with external links that you can print very large images via jpeg. Go Google vendors and ask them.

Our photographer is providing the Tiffs for us. Like you, we also do some professional photography. We are giving our photographer a hard drive for him to provide it. We actually asked a few photographers we interviewed and a couple others said they'd offer it to us too. The main reason we wanted them though was just in case we want to do any of our own edits. We love our photographer and his composition, we just would like to be able to change some colors to our liking maybe on a photo or two. We signed saying we wouldn't market it as our own photo, but like when we did e-pics he forgot we really like vibrant colors and he edited with a little film look (my profile picture is the one he edited, when we edited it, we just made the blacks a little more black and there was an area that looked a little too green to us). It was nice to have the tiffs to be able to do that. Our photographer and my FH (the main photographer between us) really got along and like before our e-pics we went out for a beer, so I think the fact that they just had fun talking about photography so much made our photographer comfortable giving the tiffs. He said he wouldn't give it to someone that was asking just because someone told them to. He saw my FH's work and knew he could trust him to do nice things to his pictures and so there was a relationship that was built between them before my FH asked about getting the Tiffs. So you might someone really chill and friendly who would understand you're desire.

As for printing though, I think the high res jpegs would be just fine.

Have you asked photographers yet? You might find if you really nerd out with them about photography they'll be up for considering it. Like I said a few were okay with it for us. I'm not sure where you're located, but our photographer is in San Diego, CA. If you'd like his name you can send me a message, I don't want to put it all over the internet that he'll just give anyone Tiffs.

Also when I first started looking at photographers my FH said he wanted the tiffs and I was worried we wouldn't find anyone willing to do that, but we were pleasantly surprised that a few of our favorites would have been fine with it!

As a photographer (mostly newborn and families) I can honestly save that I've never had an issue printing with jpegs, while using a professional print lab. We have multiple 16x20, and 20x30 prints, canvases and metal prints throughout our home and it has never been and issue. Most won't give out the tiffs because any edits, including color adjustments, should be done by the photographer.

My photographers gave us jpegs. I have the option of using their printing service, but even then, they are using jpegs.

I have four prints from jpeg on a 11x14 canvas. And I have a few 8x12 prints from mpix, also with jpegs.

You would have to re-save the jpeg file many, many times to get noticeable degradation.

Even my own father, who is a pro photographer, uses jpeg to print his images.

"AndixLyn, I don't want Tiffs for editing.

Raw files are used for editing photos, as can be seen in the following literature:"

see what you did there, contradiction is a bitch.

if you're pro, talk to another pro and see if they are willing, just like others have suggested.
