Natural Hairstyles - help

Selena , on November 8, 2018 at 11:45 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 7

For colored women who have natural hair, how do you go about finding the right stylist for your big day? I don't go to the salon I actually just do my hair myself. If anyone has any recommendations in the NY area please let me know!

Thanks!

I’d try posting this under local groups to generate a better response.

Hi Selena!! Finding the right stylist especially when you are used to doing your own hair can require a little work! It's definitely worth it though once you find the right person for you. If you have a few potential stylists, have a visit with them and start your hair trials early! You want to make sure that you love the work that they do. The WeddingWire vendor list is a great place to search and I've filter on textured hairstyling to find a stylist that may offer natural hair services. StyleSeat is another great place to search, you can type in natural hair with your location and see what comes up there!

Have you thought about the style or look that you want on your wedding day?

When you say natural hair, is your hair freely growing or in locs or what? That alone should narrow down the salon list. Search places in your area and see if they have Instagram accounts so you know what they are capable of. You can get ideas from there or Pinterest and ask around for pricing.

I’m planning on going to my regular salon for a wash and set the day before and then I have a stylist who specializes in bridal looks coming to my house the day of. That’s how I did my trial because the ladies who know how to get my hair straight do not know how to duplicate hairstyles seen in photos lol and vice versa. Everyone has their specialty I’ve learned lol

I went by word of mouth from other brides I knew who did natural hair and asked stylists from Ouidad's solan and Deva Curl. I'm currently going through a few now.
