Natural Hair Brides... Will you wear it natural or straighten?

Soon2bMrsSmith, on October 19, 2013 at 12:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

I still have 11 months before my wedding Day but I think my biggest issue will be my hair. I want to straighten my hair but I'm in feat that it will bush up halfway through. My friend told me I could start straightening my hair so I could train it but still undecided. What are your plans for your Natural Hair?

I have been natural for 2 years and recently had it straightened for my bachelorette party and my sister put just a tad of gel in it and it went right back to natural state. So I am a little afraid of that for my wedding so I am just getting micros put in next week.

I have been natural for a little over a year now and I'm probably going to wear mine natural. It varies from person to person but I like the natural look. I'm thinking about doing a twist out if my hair grows enough in the time I have before the wedding (about another year til the day). That's really cute and you can look up the instructional vids on youtube. You can also try looking into a brazillian blowout. Its kinda like a straightening treatment. No harsh chemicals, if any. I personally prefer not to straighten it just becuz I dont want any heat damage... Hope that helps

Have any blow dry salons nearby? Go talk to them about how long a blow out can last. My cousin's BMs went to the "dry bar", they all had curly looks done but I don't think any product was used. It lasted for at least 8 hours.

There are some REALLY cute natural hair wedding styles. Google "natural hair updos" or "black natural hair brides" or something along those lines--you'll get results. Best thing to do is to start your search now for a good hair stylist whether you want it natural or straight. But the pics really helped me with ideas cause I want to wear mine natural but without worrying about shrinkage or frizz...

My hair was Shirley Temple curly when I was younger. And it's still curly, just not like that anymore.I straightened everyday in high school because I hated my hair, but now I keep it mostly up because of school. If its down, it's curly. I've had numerous family members tell me they'll be upset if I wore it up or straight.so I'll have a half up, half down curly hairstyle. Curling iron will be used also! Smiley smile

I have really curly hair, and my fiancé loves it curly. I want to keep mine curly for the big day I just don't know what to do with it or if a hair stylist will work with my natural curl (with the product I use already in it) Every time I talk to a hair stylist they want to straighten my hair. I'm on the same boat. But no, don't start straightening it now to "train" it, that's just going to damage it. Good luck cant wait to see what you decide.

I love my natural! Been natural all my life. I plan to do individual twists than have the twists styled in an updo.

I'm wearing a high bun for mine which requires the edges around my hair to be flat ironed. I'm terrified of heat damaged so my hair will ironed on low heat and some Design Essentials edge gel. For some reason, that brand does not make my hair curl back up, while other gels do.

You can always get a sew in with a lace closure so that none of your hair is out if you really want a straight hair look, OR just rock a twist out with a cute bling hair pin! Smiley smile

I have locs and worried my hair would not look elegant on my wedding day but I woried for nothing. Natural hair is beautiful and although I'm not sure if you can train your hair to be straight and not bush up or not, do you really want to do that for the one day? What are you going to do after the wedding if you want it to go back to it's natural state? You could wear some twists or as has been said a twist out. My sample is to show you what you can do with your hair twisted or braided (which would be similar to my loc look).

That is a debate I'm having with myself right now. I have a small fro so a pin up is not an option. I've been natural this time for about 6 months as I often go from a short natural fade to a short relaxed look. Every once in a while I grow enough for braids.

I'm a natural and decided to have a full head sew in with silk closure so that none of my hair is out. Also we went away for our honeymoon and I really didn't want the maintenance of my hair during that trip so it's convenient. You can do sew-in, twists, it even add Marley hair for a nice pompadour or bun. Good luck!

I love natural hair. I transitioned almost 3 years ago and I love my curly hair but I will be straightening it on my wedding day. My curly hair gets bigger and bigger as the day goes on so I want to keep it contained. I will add extensions for more volume because my straight hair is too flat.

Naturalhairbride.com , has great pics. I'm leaning toward micros, we leave on a cruise the next day and I don't want to even have to think about hair. Micros will allow me to style it in a bun and attach a veil for the wedding as well as making it easy to manage the following days.

I remember when you posted your pics Mrs. V...i absolutely love your locs.

I've been natural for 3 years and I always get a Sew-In for big occasions, I think I'll do the same for the wedding because my hair is very kinky.

I am planning on purchasing Brazilian wavy extensions and it can't wait to see how it turns out

I'll be rocking my natural all the way. I'm going for my first hair trial in a couple of weeks and am pretty geeked about it! I believe my stylist is going to have to straighten me completely out which I've never worn, but for the style to come out how I'm envisioning, heat is a must. Luckily, I don't use heat often on my head and typically wear protective styles as well as my hair being as thick as sheep's wool...lol!

This is the look I'm going for; however I'm going for color and will be going for a brighter auburn than I have right now.

@stacey - thanks for the website info. I'll be checking that out today for any Plan Bs or Cs if my initial style doesn't work out.

I'm white, but I have naturally curly hair. Since I need my hair to last a long time on my wedding day, I chose a style with big curls because I feel it is much more likely to hold all day then if I were to fight the curls and straighten it.

If you're set on going straight, I would start now and keep it straightened through the wedding so it doesn't pouf up in the middle of the event.
