Name Change.

Sierra, on May 15, 2019 at 9:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
So having a super hard time Figuring out if it’s possible for my Fiancé (who has two last names already (dad and moms)) to move her first last name (dads) and make it a middle name and hyphenate my last name with her moms last name. Just trying to see if anyone knows if it’s possible. For Ex:

(Not Actual Names)
Hers BEFORE marriage:
Helen Olivia TorresCastro
Mine BEFORE marriage:
Tiffany Raven Hernandez

Her name AFTER Marriage:
Helen Olivia Torres HernandezCastro
Mine AFTER Marriage:
Tiffany Raven HernandezCastro

Name change laws are different in every state. The best place to get info would be to call your county clerk.

This is correct. Each state is so very different and you may get some well intentioned, but incorrect information on here because of that. For example, I believe that in the state I reside in, you are allowed a First, Middle, and last name. Though the last name may be hyphenated. Legally, I do not think you can have more than one middle name here. I would call your town/city clerk and speak with them directly. Best of luck!

As the pp’s have mentioned, it would be best to address your question to your city clerk. You want to avoid getting incorrect information since state laws can differ hugely.

I am in California and my last name was (Dads) (Moms), I wanted to keep my moms as my middle name and get rid of my dads but was told they recently passed something that does not allow this in California. I was super sad but I was not about to have 3 last names.

Hi Sierra! Did you and your FS figure this name change out yet? Did you speak with the country clerk?
