My sister’s due date is my wedding date.

Jessica, on September 30, 2019 at 11:22 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11
My sister just found out she is pregnant and while I am so happy for her, her predicated due date is the same as my wedding date. We have only sent out save the dates so far but I do have multiple deposits made. Is it crazy to change the whole wedding around her? She’s my only sister and without her half my family guest list is gone. Help. Smiley sad

Oh gosh ... that is tough. would changing the date even work for you though in terms of your vendors and venue and time?

Does she have to travel for the wedding? Is she in the wedding party? If she is local, she could potentially have her go bag at the ready, just in case.

Going into labor at the wedding would make it a memorial time, thats for sure.

It's definitely not crazy to change the date around her due date if that's what's important to you, which it seems to be. If you've booked multiple vendors, it probably won't be easy to coordinate all of them on another date but it's definitely doable. If this is what you'd like to do, I would contact all of your vendors ASAP and ask for the other dates they have available in the new time frame you're considering so you can compare from each vendor and settle on a new date. I hope it all works out!

We would probably have to start from scratch at a new location. Maybe even a different state due to the window of weather being nice in my location at a different date.

The wedding is in New Mexico and she lives in Texas.

That is definitely a tough one. My only suggestion, since your sister is so important, is to get married early (elopement) and have her there, and continue planning as you are if it will be too difficult to move the date.

    Good luck with your decision.

That is tough, I think it depends what is more important to you! I'd want to be there for my sister when she gives birth. I'd contact all your venue first, see if they can just change the date. You might not lose any money. Then if the venue has a new date, I'd contact vendors and see if they can move your date as well. If they can't you can go from there. But I'd start with venue.

As for sending save the dates already, you can either send new save the dates, or a small announcement card that you are changing the date.

I would change it, personally. I just couldn't imagine not having my sister there

Agree with this 100% Also, first pregnancies (if this is her first child) can sometimes go over the due date. I would see if the venue has other dates at least a month and a half after the original date, as she probably wouldn't want to travel with a two week old (just an example Smiley smile) best of luck! That’s exactly what I’m thinking. As annoying as it could be I know I would regret not having her there in the long run.
