My sister's dress scare at David's Bridal

Skyla, on March 10, 2011 at 1:39 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

I know that many brides use David's bridal, and that this situation happened at only one store, but I thought I would share it with ya'll.

In an Orlando shop almost exactly 10 years ago, my sister walked into David's Bridal to pick up her dress... Which to her horror was "lost." They had no idea where her dress was. She sat in the middle of David's Bridal and cried her eyes out while my mother was in a frenzy. My mother told David's Bridal that they WOULD let my sister choose a new dress, whatever the cost, and they WOULD give it to her. Sure enough my sister found a dress she liked and David's Bridal followed through.

What a scary thought that a dress can be lost, huh? I am not sure what I would do if my dress disappeared. I think I love mine too much to pick a different one!

Luckily for me, the dress in my size was at the store when I was shopping for a dress. i bought it.. took it home! and now it's hanging up. Can't get lost there! And if it did, it would be my fault.

I ordered mine and it was shipped to my home. It's sitting safely in my parents closet.

But I would NEVER do my alterations through them. They are notoriously overpriced and take way too long! My seamstress is 1/4 the price and is doing more than they were going to do!

My friends wedding dress got "lost" for 30 min. at David's Bridal too!

Polish lady couldn't understand english I guess. My friend told her what her last name was... and the lady "heard" something different and was looking under a different name. My poor friend was pregnant and freaking out. 30 min later they find it.... under her last name! Then the polish lady told my friend she didn't tell her the right name the first time ! Of course she knows her own Name! I think the employee should ask brides to write down their name if they Know they have issues hearing names or knowing the spelling.

OMG... that's crazy! I've read stories of brides going to pick up their dress and them having make up stains on them and the dresses ended up being just a sample out of the store even though the consultant assured the bride that a new gown would be ordered.

At least the store set her up with a new one! It could have been a lot worse! ANY dress store could "lose your dress" - not just DB.

What was scarier for me was that I got my dress from a family owned store. A big store, looked professional...then they up and moved without telling me. Luckily, it was just two stores down to a bigger place, but STILL. I thought they had closed and I would never get my dress from them. I hurried the process and took my dress home!

Wow, that is crazy! I haven't had any issues with DB. I just had my first fitting last Tuesday and my dress will be ready tomorrow (Friday). So that's what, about a week and a half for alterations.....I thought that was kind of fast, but all they are doing is taking the bust in, the hips part had to be let out to give me more room (what can I say, I am blessed in that area...LOL) and let back in for a custom fit (it's a mermaid gown), and I had some bra cups sewn in. I also had a simple bustle done. My alterations were only $170, which I thought was reasonable since I had budgeted $200.

Great misfortune. If that were my case I'm certain I would demand a new dress of my choosen at no matter the cost. I have two wedding dresses, both from David's Bridal. One is at home and the other is in the store ready for pickup. I think I better hurry up and get that second dress...lol

Hopefully their ordering system has improved in the last ten years, but what an awful situation.

I ordered from DB, I loved the dress, it arrived timely, the only gripe I had was with the post-ordering service. However to get a dress I loved at a great price did compensate for it.

@Holly, that happens more than one thinks. In fact, I have heard of shops actually going out of business, leaving brides without their gowns and their money. Ugh!
