My resized ring is now too small :-(

Maureen, on February 27, 2016 at 8:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I had my ring for a little over a week when I took it in to get resized cuz it was too big. I got it back last night and now it's too small. I can fit it on if I really try. But getting it off is difficult. I've never worn rings before so I don't really know how the sizing works. I understand that finger sizes fluctuate. So my question is what is the best time of time to go for sizing? I don't want to keep going back for resizing if I don't have to.

I'm not an expert either but I'd think the person you went to would have advised you on this. I do think it fluctuates but honestly can't say how it works. Mine is a bit loose but I'm not getting it sized. I like playing with it reminds me of my FH and it's not loose enough to just come off. This is just an awful situation for you and I'm sorry for this. Not sure what can be done at this point. I'd say talk to the place you took it and see what can be done. Personally I wouldn't have left with it knowing it was too small.

My ring is loose when my hands are cold so I'm going to wait until the summer to see if it needs to get resized.

My rings are loose when my hands are cold. My rings are tight when I've eaten salty food.

I got sizing beads added to the inside of my e-ring. They help to keep the stone upright instead of spinning around my finger. You might want to check into sizing beads.

It can also fluctuate with how much sodium you've had, your time of the month, etc. Give it a couple days. If they still don't fit bring them back in and have them resized. You don't want them so tight that you damage your finger! Smiley smile

I had the same problem (sort of) when I took it in to get resized after he proposed. I wanted to try the beads to keep my ring from spinning and when I tried it on it was hard getting it to go through my joints, and it also felt weird with the beads on the bottom. I decided to wear it overnight and see how it felt before I decided to make a change. I did not like the way the beads felt on my finger, so I took it back the next day and had them removed. The ring feels a lot better on, still a bit snug on the joints when I put it on, but once it's on, no complaints! I do notice that my fingers swell up when it's hot and first thing in the morning. During the cold months my fingers don't swell as much. I would say wear the ring for another day or so and if it doesn't feel right, just take it back to be resized again.

I was using a ring spacer but I didn't want that to be how my ring fit. I do get free ring sizing so the cost isn't a big deal. I just don't want to keep taking it back. I may just go up 1 size. A bigger ring with a spacer is better than one that's too small

I thought I had the same problem when I had mine resized - I was horrified when I woke up and could barely take it off (fingers often swell when you sleep). I spent a whole day Googling ring sizing info online. But I now know a big part of it feeling too tight was simply my not being used to wearing a ring. After wearing it for 2-3 days it felt fine, and I no longer freak out when it feels tight first thing in the morning. I'd say unless you're in pain, wear it a week and see how you feel then.

When I got my ring resized my jewlery said it was fine to be a little tight over the joint because you don't want it to fall off. My knuckle was red from taking it on and off will sizing it and trying wedding bands with it but after a couple of days the redness went away. Like the pp have said, your fingers will swell depending on the time of day, what you eat etc. Try wearing it for a few days before you go back.

Didn't they use the ring sizer on you?

My ring is loose, but when I run/exercise, it's right. I thought about resizing it a quarter size but decided against it. My wedding band is a quarter size (5.5) smaller than my e-ring. It seems like it will stabilize it a bit.

This happened to me to, the first time it was way too tight, but I took it back to get it a tad bigger. My band is very thin with a top heavy stone so it moves back and forth a bit. Also some days it feels more fitted than others. Just the way the cookie crumbles.

Try going up a quarter size- that's all I had to get mine done to have it fit correctly

I just just going to say - don't do a whole size, maybe a 1/4th or a half size. I've read to get sized at 3 different places when you're not stressed, middle of the day to avoid swelling. Take the median size by adding all 3 sizes together and then divide by 3....so if you got 6, 6 and 7, you'd go with 6.3 (but you'd have to either go down to 6.25 or up to 6.5 because I'm pretty sure 6.3 doesn't exist lol)

I agree with FutureMrsK and Dana, a whole size might be too loose. I'd talk with your jeweller about your concern. I know for me, I'm not used to wearing rings and I didn't understand how tight they are supposed to be to make sure they don't fall off.

A whole size is a lot. Go up a half size, but also the jeweler should know.

You should have to rock it (forward and backward) to get off a well sized ring
