Are you bringing in a caterer?

If you have a caterer, I don't think they actually need a kitchen. They bring the food to your site in thermal containers to keep the heat in, already all cooked and ready to serve. You can use ice chests to keep your food hot too if you are cooking it yourself and bringing it from home.

Mine doesn't either...we have an outside caterer and are renting a grill for them to use to cook whatever they need to. It's not a reason to panic, just something else to ask your caterer about.

    Hi Mz_sunshine,

Can you serve cold/picnic foods? Deli sandwiches, pasta salads, etc?

If you plan to have her cook, you will need to serve cold foods. With no ability to reheat/ keep foods warm, deli selctions are your best bet. However, those will also need to be kept chilled.

Have you considered a cake and punch reception? You could serve cake and desserts, and possibly coffee. Large coffee pots are easily rented at party stores. Otherwise, I would look into chafing dishes for things that need to be kept hot/ cold, but still would not recommend it without a caterer.

@ analy there is a fridge but I don't think it will be big enough to hold food for 150 people. Cold food sounds like a good idea, but my fiance and his family like to eat : ( I will pitch this idea to him and see how he feels.

What about an afternoon receptions where you could get away with just appetizers?

The First thing I would say is you need a caterer. I would say you should have buffet style, that way it will stay warm.

Many local rental companies can rent you hot boxes and chaufers (sp?). They can get expensive though. She could also get some of the large roasting pans that plug in the wall, similar to a crock pot.

It might not hurt to phrase it to your fiance as being able to do cold food w/ MIL doing the cooking OR doing hot foot prepared by a caterer...
