My dress is strapless and I've got huge tan lines on my shoulders...

Kim, on August 17, 2015 at 12:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I've been cycling to work so my arms and upper chest, and shoulders have lots of colour... In a very noticeable racer-back pattern. I doubt it will fade away before the wedding.

Has anyone here ever had a spray tan, and know if it would make my shoulders and arms a more even tone? I was going to try it this week and see but don't was hoping to hear your thoughts and experiences.

I've never done it, but I would talk to someone at the tanning salon to get their opinion. You could also try just a sunless tanner. I personally really like Arbonne's sunless tanner. It has yet to fail me! Smiley smile

Uh Oh! From my experience, a spray tan does a decent job of covering up tan lines...but usually they do not make them completely disappear. Tan lines tend to be more noticeable in pictures than in person. Definitely find a recommendation for a good place and consult them.

Talk to a makeup artist. One of my friends was a brides maid and was burned on her face right before the wedding. The artist ended up making the burn look like it was across her chest also, so she didn't look like she had a fiery blush all night. A makeup artist should be able to fill them in so you look like you have an even tan all over without having to do a spray tan, which will probably still show your tan lines.

I would put sunblock over the tan area and layout to target the other area. A spray tan can help (especially an airbrush) but try and get the tones even first.

Don't count on a spray tan!!!! I get them frequently and while they will soften the harshness of the tan lines, they will absolutely not disappear! (note - I use the Versa spray tan booths, could be different if you have someone spraying you in person).

The way spray tans work is that they react to your natural skin tone, so if it's December and I'm pale as can be and get the level 1 spray tan, then I will still be paler than when I get the level 1 spray tan on top of a light tan in the summer.

Best bet is laying out in a strapless top!

I walk to work, so also ended up with tan lines, and the back of my dress was totally open so it was even worse. The month before my wedding, I started laying out A LOT, switching the top I wore each time so that it would even things out. It worked pretty well, but I had to do this for about 30 minutes each side at least twice a week for maybe three weeks.

Where do you live? We have a place called suntancity and they have sunless tan that is amazing!!!!!!! You stand in a bed that looks like a standup sun bed... you pick the shade you want and it mixes with purple that way you dont get the orangy feel. I would go and your first visit will not be much noticeable. trust me!

Spray tan will not work because it would still be lighter in those areas. In my experience, a make up sponge and self tanner is your best bet. Try a couple to see which one matches you most closely then apply to your lighter areas with the make up sponge and let it dry. you can reapply for a few days until you get a more even tone.

The other option is, of course, laying out in a strapless.

I rode top down in my jeep a few weeks ago, got a nice seatbelt line across my chest, tried to fix that by being in the sun and over did it now I have burn and peeling etc. I am planning on going to the tanning booth to try to even it out but waiting until I stop peeling. We are on the same time frame, I feel your pain! I didn't even think about tan lines until it was too late! Like we don't have enough to worry about!

Thanks everyone! I've been wearing SPF 90, but it hasn't blocked the sun as much as I'd hoped. It's been too hot to wear anything more than a short sleeve tshirt or tank top. I'm super fair skinned, but may start sitting out in the sun in tube tops on my lunch break and see how that goes! Failing that, will have to talk to my MUA and see if he's got any tricks up his sleeve.
