My dress is in!

Rachel, on April 6, 2021 at 4:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
OMG! My bridal salon just emailed me to tell me
that my wedding dress has already come in! I’m really, really surprised and shocked since I wasn’t expecting it to come in until at least closer to June, but I’m planning on picking it up later this month on the 29th! Wow! I’m nervous to see how “my dress” will look and fit, but I’m really, really excited at the same time! Did anyone else feel the nerves when going to pick up their dress!?

That's so exciting!! I'm sure everything will go well, let us know how it turns out!

I was nervous to pick my dress up last year, but that was more so because I had to rush to pick it up literally the day before the stay at home order was set to begin, at which point the dress shop was going to be closed for an unknown amount of time. So I was nervous that I wasn't going to be able to pick it up before they closed. I wasn't able to try it on at the salon when I picked it up (COVID policy), so I tried it on at home. I was just happy to have had the dress in my possession at the time!

Oooh super exciting! I went by myself and yes, I was VERY nervous. I think it was partially because when I bought it, I was imagining how I'd look in it on the day, perfectly tailored to my size, hair and makeup done, etc, 18 months into the future, which felt so far away.

And suddenly I was collecting it, before I was expecting to. I'd sized up from the sample to accommodate some alterations in the neckline, so I knew my dress would be too big, and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see past that to what I'd fallen in love with when I bought it.

I also didn't have anyone I could take with me, since I got the call on quite late notice and I didn't know that anyone would be available, so I was alone. And when I arrived, they told me that the woman who would do my alterations was in, so would I mind waiting until she was finished with another client? So I'm sitting there by myself, watching girls have these emotional, beautiful moments with their friends and family as they pick their dresses, feeling anxious and a bit raw, but still in an exciting, looking-forward-to-it kind of way, and I got a bit teary-eyed, I won't lie.

But I put my dress on and yes, it was way bigger than the sample, but I could see why I picked it, and I felt confident it would look exactly how I pictured it when the day comes.

I think a lot of us worry about this - we might have gained weight or lost weight, be afraid we picked the wrong thing, or that our friends and family won't like it, maybe they pressured us into buying it and WE don't like it! There's so many conflicting feelings and it's SUCH an important dress.

My advice would be to be kind to yourself, take the time to process how you're feeling and what you're looking at. It will not look like whatever it looks like when you pick it up, off the rack, on the day. Take photos, take a friend, speak openly to their alterations person if you have a chance about what you want done, and then go and have a big glass of wine or a nice lunch and really enjoy this moment, because it's special, and to be celebrated!

That's so exciting!!! I actually got to take my dresses home the day I bought them! They're at my MOH house, but I'm nervous about putting them on again for alterations.
