We called the bridal store and I am not sure what they are going to be able to do for us because it is "past the time they can send it back" I'm about to start looking for a new one. Any thoughts on how it could have turned out that wrong?

Just because she signed for it it doesn't mean it's her mistake. Either the store messed up her measurements, or the patternmaker messed up. It's worth fighting it a bit more. I'm a clothing designer and oversee the factory operations so although not bridal, I have some experience in this area. Keep on them, don't give up!

I think you should wear flats. 5'4 is still way shorter than 6'6. what difference does 3 inches shorter than that make? buying flats is much more cost effective and less complicated then getting a new dress. if you get a new dress you will likely need alterations on that dress too. that's a lot of money, and possibly not enough time.

Leslie the problem you are going to have is that you signed the paper. Stores fault or not you signed the paper saying it was fine. Even you made the comment that you thought it might be too short with your shoes but took it anyways.

Part of the reason stores have you sign those papers is because some people (not you but some) will change the shoe they are wearing so now the shoes are taller than when initially measured and then they turn around and say "The store messed up its not my fault". Again not saying that is what you did but some people do which is why you sign a paper saying the dress is fine.

Although I am curious (sorry if I missed the answer to this) if you thought it might be a problem why didn't you try the dress on a few days later with your shoes to make sure there wasn't a problem?

I didnt see the post where she said she thought it was too short, just saw now, and agree that the store should have told her to bring her shoes. They are the professionals here, they should have given more guidance.

Yikes! I'm not saying everything I did was 100% percent right in this situation. When I went to get the dress I thought it was a little short when I tried it on and looked in the mirror. There was no damage orator issues. That is the whole reason I thought I was there for. Yes, I should have said something along the lines of "this seems too short to me and I am flat footed at the point". Besides that I signed and left with it. I was wrong. I want to see what they can do for me and it's nice that they will work with me. It is NOT MY FAULT that the dress is too short. Should they have asked when I picked it up, maybe. Should I have said something then, probably. But the point is they took the measurements wrong. Will the own up to this, hopefully. But I can see if the don't and want us to pay for a fix. They are a business and they don't want to have to put out money for my mistake. Thank you everyone for your input and kinda words and dose of reality. Smiley smile It will all work out in the end either way! It's not a about the dress at the end of the day it's about marrying the man of my dreams! Or at least I can tell myself that! Ha!

So, your wedding isn't until September and they say they don't have time to make any alterations?? That does not sound right.

Wouldn't wearing flats just be the least expensive option?

WHY would they have altered you without shoes. They should have made you come back WITH shoes.

That's their mess up IMO. Measuring you wrong. It's THEIR job to do the right thing by a bride. It's insane how taken advantage women are during the "bride" process because most of us are clueless.

I really hope they help you out with the extra lace, regardless of you "signing a paper". There was a step missed, and it's not your job to know how to try a dress on at each step, THEY are the pros.

Hold on I'm confused. Your wedding is in Sept and you already went for a fitting? Needless to say they should have known better then to have you try it without shoes.

    Leslie,

I'm really curious as to what the outcome was with your dress. I'm going through a very similar situation right now. My dress is 4 inches too short. I actually said something when I went to pick it up and they said it was because it was wrinkled and that my seamstress will steam it and take care of alterations. But 4 inches?! I, like you, immediately got in for a fitting because I had my doubts. My seamstress who is also a dress shop owner couldn't believe they let me go out the door with this short of a dress. Now, yes, I do have a ridiculously huge hoop skirt but when I went to the seamstress they had me try on multiple hoop skirts and it was too short even when I was barefoot! Also, when I ordered they measured me without high heels as well. The bridal shop I ordered from said that the dress was made for a girl who is 5'8" and I'm 5'5" and again still too short. I told them specifically when I ordered that I planned on doing custom work to the skirt and planning on wearing a very large hoop skirt to have that poofy effect. They assured me it would be plenty of material. So devastated right now especially since I was trusting the professionals.

I just wanted to know what your outcome was as I'm going back to my shop which is 2 hours away on Saturday and want to be prepared for the worst.
