My dress disaster!

Leslie, on March 26, 2014 at 6:30 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37

My wedding is 9/26. I got my dress in January and made my first dress fitting for this past Friday. Well I had my dress hallow to hem and it is 3 inches too short!!!! I'm a mess. We called the bridal store and I am not sure what they are going to be able to do for us because it is "past the time they can send it back" I'm about to start looking for a new one. Any thoughts on how it could have turned out that wrong?

What does the dress look like? You may be ablr to add tulle or something to make it look right. And itll look like it was designed that way.

My alterations lady said I would need 3 yards of lace which the designer (Casablanca) wants 900 for.

Wouldn't it be the store's fault for measuring you incorrectly?

Oh geez, I'm sorry! If it was the bridal store that measured you, I'd complain until they took care of it.

Is it too short with heels? Could you wear flats/shorter heels? (not ideal, but might make an easy fix)

They said is past the time that we can send the dress back. I went in and tried it on but did not think to bring my shoes. They said they want me to be happy and are willing to work with me but honestly they are not the nicest. I am going to see what they can do but I will not be letting them make an alterations themselves or paying anything extra

I completely understand. FH is 6'7" and I'm 5'6" ish and I need my heels :-) I completely understand.

Try talking to some independent alterations places. They might have a better solution for you.

Even though it is passed the time to return it, they still f*d up! Keep on them until they do something to fix it. What is the name of the store? Make sure you post about it on their facebook page, any review sites, then they will sit up and take notice. Good luck!

It's their job to ask you when you order your dress how high your heels are going to be! They need to be the one to fix it! They should've never made the measurements to be exact with you flat footed. You need that lace but THEY need to be the ones to foot the bill on it! I hope you get this resolved.

I tried it on and thought it might be short but I did not have my shoes with me. I checked for damage and it was fine so I signed. They never told me to bring my shoes with me to "check for height". You would think they are the professionals and when they measured me in the shoes I had picked out already they would have done it right. I heard that they have a 1 and 1/2 inch lee way. I'll take it that I signed for it and there was an issue but they made the mistake with the measurements or the designer cut it wrong.

Hmmm... I always knew that you're supposed to bring your wedding shoes with your to your fitting appointment. I feel like that's one of the first things that everyone tells you about wedding dress shopping/fittings. I don't know that the bridal salon is going to pony up for fixing this, since they did measure and hem your dress to your height. I noticed that you said your dress is too short by 3 inches and that your heels are also 3 inches, so there's your length disparity. I think that you're either going to have to wear flats or pay the money to fix it. How much was your dress? Would it really be more cost effective to full out by a new dress or to pay for fixing this one?

The dress was 1,200 ish. The cost for the extra lace was 900 from the designer. I still have to go up there this weekend and see what they say and if there is anything they can do. Is it considering a fitting when your dress came in? I guess I just thought it was me assessing damage and condition. I guess if anything this was a learning experience. A very expensive leaning experience Smiley sad.

They did not discuss a petite option or use that language with me. The only thing they called it was hallow to hem.

They should have asked you about shoes because they should have the experience to know that this should be accounted for in the measurements. I would ask to speak to the manager and explain the situation. This isn't your fault-- you went to a bridal salon for their professional expertise, and that's what you should get. They should offer to pay for a new dress or for the additional lace (and the alterations it will require to add the lace).

ETA; 3 inches too short on you with your flats, or 3 inches too short with the 3 inch heels? Just curious.

Wait, so Casablanca will send you a dress pre-hemmed? I didn't know that!

I feel like either their measurements they took of me were wrong or whoever actually made and cut the dress did it wrong. It's 3inches too short with my shoes on. I was told they took the hallow to hem measurements wrong from another local bridal shop. They took it in my underwear with my shoes on but not my dress. I was told you should have the dress on. I just hope they can fix it at this point. I'll sell it if they can't and get a new one.

Omg! Casablanca wants $900 for 3 yards of lace for a $1200 gown?? makes no sense! Can you purchase your own lace and find something that matches or at least goes with it and add a layer or two to make it look like it's an added detail and have a trusted seamstress do it for you? Can you post a pic of the dress to help us picture it please! This is nuts! I do agree the bridal salon should take responsibility, they are the experts not you!

Girl, you will NOT sell it if they can't fix it, you will get a REFUND from the shop and take your business to a place where they know what they're doing. Sorry you have to do through this.
