My Budget!!!

Megan, on June 3, 2019 at 11:24 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hey Ladies,

I am not sure what to do!!! I am getting married next month and we are short $2,000 for the venue!!! I a freaking out because my Fiance was unfortunately let go from his job just a couple of days ago and now we just have my income to pay for the rest. We have spent most of the wedding money, on things that cannot be returned because we already paid for them or are a necessity to the wedding( Officiant, Cake, hair, makeup) Those are small amounts and I am not worried about that. It is the Venue I am worried about, if we don't have enough money 2 weeks before the date it get's canceled. There are no other days available, and we have out of town guests coming. My credit is not high enough to get a credit card with or without my banks help. Please help!!! At a loss, as my father already paid $3,500. Total cost of the wedding is about 12,000 and we are still missing 2,000. Anyone!!! Help!!!

Are you able to ask your father if you can borrow the balance from him? Or ask the venue to work out a payment schedule for the balance? Hopefully since it's so close they'd be willing to work with you but they may not.

Do you have a credit card? Those are helpful in situations like this.

I agree with Victoria, see if you can borrow it from a family member and then pay them back or see if you can do a payment plan with the venue. If not, I would try selling stuff around your house you may not need to make some extra cash.

I might just have to ask my dad, He will give me the 5th Degree but there may be nothing else I can do!!! I cannot get a credit card, I don't really have credit since me or my finance have never taken out a credit card or a loan. I can only take out a secured credit card (and that won't help my situation now). Thank you, you guys!

Ask to borrow from someone and usually for weddings people give cash as gifts, whatever you get you can use to pay someone back for the loan.
I hope everything works out for you. I know weddings cost a lot and it can be a financial strain

What's included in your venue? Can you speak to them and see if you can reduce what's included to reduce the portion needed? If you can't reduce what's included, can you chose cheaper option (example: the chicken that we are using for lunch is $120 pp, the cheapest chicken is however $95 pp, if I changed the chicken entrée to the other one, I would save $25 pp for people who are eating chicken).

Other options - do you or ur finance have a car? Can you do Uber or Lyft? Can you see if you can find an odd job from close friends or family (doing cleaning, lawn work)? Ask to borrow from a friend.

Are you having a professional MUAH person on ur wedding? If so, you could cancel that & do your own hair & makeup.

You have to start somewhere with credit. Applying for a credit card might not be a bad option. Check with Credit Karma, they will have recommendations for you based on your income/credit, etc. Even one low limit credit card can get you close to your goal.

You’d be shocked at how easy it is to obtain credit these days. Just make sure to pay it off, as any credit card you get will be higher interest.

I agree, see if you can switch the meal for a cheaper one. Also what about flowers? If you don't have them already maybe DIY the flowers, get them from your local grocery store or sams.
