Music ideas!

Madison, on August 4, 2019 at 11:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 22
Hi everyone! I have the song I am waking down the aisle to but I need ideas for the cocktail hour and reception! I want fun songs that people will dance to! I am open to all kinds of music. I have searched on YouTube and Spotify like wedding party music but it’s all pretty generic stuff

How about some Cardi B, Bruno Mars, or Drake?

You could even ask guests for any song requests

There are tons of online "wedding music playlists" if you Google it. There are general ones for dance music and tons of specific ones for potential events (e.g., father-daughter dance, bouquet toss, etc.).

Love them! I saw on a discussion the other day about music and people don’t play rap at weddings but to be honest that’s what I dance to! Like when my fiancé seems me dancing around the house it’s to some type of rap some or R&B

Yeah you have to keep yourself happy and your guests. know your crowd if theyre coolw ith rap then who cares if its not "typical" to have rap lol. I dance around the house to country music and FH dances to old school jams and irish music hahah so we will have literally everything!

The thing is generic is what people know. I love some pretty amazing indie bands but no one hears them on the radio which means guests will be less likely to get up there and dance. I definitely recommend added a song request card in your invitations to get a feel for the crowd.

We are just letting our dj have full control of dance music. I’m really into French 60’s pop right now so I think we're going to play that during the cocktail music. I have the father/daughter dance picked out but we’re still working on our first dance music and the mother/son music.

I am going crazy with this too. I have not submit my sheet because of this. I am going to have older, around my age and then kids at the wedding so I was trying to figure this out because my Grandmother does not care for the rap stuff. I am adding some rap but CLEAN ONLY, I do have a lot of 1960's 1970's songs that will be played because of her. I am going crazy I want everyone turnt up and not sitting down but I do not want to boredom them with a lot of old music.

So far I have the 1960's all the way to today music that I want the DJ to play. I also asked for request from the guest and only got back 5 request out of 62 ppl that are suppose to attend.

    HHHHEEEELLLPPPPP!

It’s so hard right! Those are good options so far!! I really like Lizzo right now so I know I want her songs! I’m not doing clean rap only because I don’t plan on playing anything too crazy and most of the time I don’t think people will really listen to the lyrics. I just want everyone to dance!

Just a warning, we asked guests for song suggestions - so far out of the 38 RSVPs we have, only 4 songs have been requested. But definitely Google it, I have found a ton of great songs that way.

We're having a different sort of vibe, but also, we know our crowd. For dinner, we're probably going to do motown/somewhat vintage jazz and blues.... a LOT of our guest list is straight outta motown for real. For dancing we're probably going to mix it up with some modern pop/rock, including Walk the Moon, T Swift (for me), John Mayer (for him), and more, plus a lot of classic stuff like Queen, Beatles, and more groove/funk. We were just at a wedding this weekend with largely the same crowd, and we noticed that this was the stuff that got more people on the floor, anyway, regardless of age. I'm also planning for some slower stuff mixed in with the faster stuff, because we (and apparently a lot of our guests, again judging by this past weekend) actually want to be able to dance with our sweethearts.
