Multi Room Reception/ceremony/dance Floor/timeline

Mandy, on September 16, 2020 at 4:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6

I am getting married at a historic building that has a couple of rooms to use. The rooms are separated by a small buffet area. Initially I thought I would have the ceremony in one room & reception in the other, but I don't want to rent more chairs (there's 175) & not sure if I could arrange anyone to move them for me during cocktail hour. So I think I will just do the ceremony & reception in one room. I am trying to decide how to utilize the extra room. I thought maybe putting the photo booth in there & have the dancing in that room as well. But then I am not sure how the timeline of everything would occur (spotlight dances, announcing wedding party).

I had dancing in a different room than dinner! But we rented a ton of lounge furniture and high top tables to put in there so people wouldn’t be stuck standing if they didn’t want to dance. We didn’t do wedding party announcements and spotlight dances we did after dinner and it opened up the dance floor.

A lot of people will just move the chairs from one area to the other during cocktail hour. Usually takes just a few people to convert during that timeframe.

Does your venue not provide the "flip"?

I would certainly talk to them about the best uses of the rooms.

The person who owns the venue just supplies the building. I'm on my own for all the planning and set up.

Who is setting up your table and chair, and decorating for you? Could you ask them to stay and help with the flip?

We actually have three connected rooms for our reception. I figure it gives plenty of room to socially distance during COVID times. One room we are setting up to be a kid’s space where they can play games and run around. Another room will have a welcome table and dancing. Then the final room opens into the dancing room and that’s where we’ll have a small sitting lounge with a couch and some chairs, some formal tables, and our wedding cake. So there’s a space for eating and drinking, a space for dancing, and a space for kids! We will have everything set up ahead of time and it will be in a set place so nothing will need to be moved
