Moving my reception

Taylor, on March 25, 2020 at 8:20 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 8
So my wedding is April 25th. My fiance and I have talked alot about what we want to do. Right now we dont want to postpone our wedding. I love this man and have been with him for almost 10 yrs. I am ready to marry him. Not to mention our date has personal significance to us. Right now we are considering just having a small ceremony with our parents and officiant (and maybe best man + MOH) on our day then have the reception later. Is anyone else doing this? What did you do? Did you redo the ceremony for everyone at the reception? We are planning on live streaming ours on our event page. I just need help.

We're doing something similar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost all of our guests outright refused to attend our April 4 wedding. They were all panicking and we completely understood. But we'd be nuts if we just completely halted being married regardless. The perfect medium was having an intimate wedding/reception (parents, bridal party) get married at city hall and then take everyone to a restaurant afterwards. But I'm in Toronto and literally everything is shut down, including restaurants (with the exception of takeout and delivery) and all civic centres are closed to. We literally have to wait until those establishments open up again, and who knows how long that is going to take. We're aiming for July/August as it seems most realistic, but we'll just have to wait and see. Some family members have even expressed that even if we moved the wedding to October or November, they wouldn't be going as they wouldn't feel safe. So, we just decided to do a small thing hopefully within the next few months, and then maybe next year at some point, we'll have the bigger reception with everyone. We're not stopping getting married for no reason. We love each other and don't want to postpone it by a year. I completely hear where you're coming from.

Our wedding was supposed to be 04/09 but we were forced to postpone. We still plan to wed privately on 04/09 and the celebration has been moved to 08/27.

The mayor of my city just officiated a couple of socially-distanced weddings, so this is not uncommon!

You can find a list of discussions and articles HERE.

Good luck, and I highly recommend the streaming - we did that so DH's grandpa could see our ceremony. Worked wonderfully!

I think the plan you're going with is a good idea. you can certainly live stream it or have another big celebration later when this all clears. i hope everything works out for you

We went from April 18th to April 4th. We decided to do a small wedding with close family and friends. It will be a backyard wedding, I've waited to long to marry this man.

I am in your same boat, I'm April 24th and I don't know what to do about just getting married and having a party later or just waiting because I dont want it to feel less special
