Moving date and making wedding smaller

Molly, on March 24, 2020 at 12:20 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi everyone!
Our wedding is set for the end of June. My fiancé and I decided not to chance the date. We are going to get married the day before our intended date, mountainside with only 50 people. Then using the space we had intended for our rehearsal for the reception.
Problem is, save the dates have already been sent and formal invites have been ordered and received. The wedding was 250 originally so it’s a little awkward now. How do I tell guests we are downsizing due to COVID-19? Thanks!

Your best bet is to just call everyone you're no longer inviting and explain that you're scared of coronavirus so you've decided to elope instead.

I agree with Mandi. I think people will be very understanding given the circumstances and many wouldn't want to put themselves at risk so would decline anyway. But, I would try to let everyone know individually if that's an option.

I think the people you uninvited will find out there was a party after all and not feel great about it.

I agree. I want to send something or call them and explain that we just have had to downsize because of the virus. Would that be rude?

Sounds like you have a plan now, Molly, but I wanted to just say I'm sorry for what you're going through and you have the support of the community with you! Smiley heart
