Mother/Daughter dance

Laura, on August 15, 2008 at 10:10 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6

So my dad isn't really part of the picture and I've decided to dance with my mother at my wedding in place of the usual father of the bride dance. I know this has become fairly common these days. The thing is that I don't want a slow sappy kinda song with us hugging and swaying back and forth, it's just not us. I want something upbeat and funny, and I'd like to have like a little choreography almost like line dancing with both of us. Any ideas for songs or places to see fun dances performed by 2 women? I have found plenty of bride/groom or even father/daughter funny dances but that's it. We live in different states so taking dance lessons together wouldn't work. But we both have dance experience so we could pick something up easily if we could find it, or even the right song. I'm open to suggestions

Depending on your preference on genre of music, I would suggest a personalized mix of two songs. (Your dj or band leader can work with you on this.) I am thinking I hope you dance by Leanne Womack until the first chorus is over then mix into Boot Scoot Boogie by Brooks and Dunn where you and Mom can do a bit of a line dance and finish it off with the last few choruses of I hope you dance. My inspiration is you both like to dance.

Professionally mixed songs can afford you endless possibilities!

Good luck and email any time for questions!

Are there any songs from your childhood that stand out in your memory? If not, I'd suggest a fun song - Oldies, Billy Joel, Motown, etc. You could always dance for a while and invite others to join in for the last chorus/verse.

On this site, if you look under Ideas and then Wedding Songs, you might find some funs songs on the lists. They're all categorized (cake-cutting, entrance, etc.), but I've found that looking at the lists helps me think of songs and get ideas for others categories too! Good luck, I'm sure the dance will be meaningful, special, and fun!

Depending on what type of music you like, you could do a fun "girly" song, such as "This One's For The Girls" by Martina McBride, which talks about girls of all different ages.

I've heard a few people talk about starting with a slow song followed by a more upbeat song. I think they have examples on youtube for father daughter dances. My song suggestion although may get a few laughs is "Mama" by the spice girls. I've also seen the Mother daughter dance before and I loved it and will probably do it as well as the father daughter dance because my mom is very close to me. Good luck!

I would start by having a conversation with Mom. Get some feedback and ideas from her. She might surprise you and come up with a perfect solution.

    Just a thought.
