Mother of the Bride/groom Dress Color

Kenzie, on September 23, 2021 at 1:32 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 6

I am so stuck and I am colorblind so I am all over the place! We have a spring wedding coming up in 2022. My bridesmaids are wearing dusty blue (from Azazie). We are trying to figure out what our moms (and grandmas) should wear, but of course it is complicated. I have my mom and grandma, then my fiance has his mom, step-mom, and grandma all who we want to be color coordinated. 5 women I need to coordinate, and I don't really want to put them in the same color! I have chosen the color "stormy" (from Azazie as well) for my mom, but now I am stuck! Can anyone offer some help on picking colors that will match well?? I believe my fiance is going to be in a light gray suit!

Well, looking at the other blues, I think these azazie blues might look nice with stormy and dusty:

twilight, ink, neptune, dark navy, steel

I think after blues, you could go in a variety of ways depending on the other elements you're looking at having in your wedding. You could go with really any of the dusty colours, and pick an overall shade if not blue - such as a collection of dusty purples, pinks, greys, greens or neutrals. The colours I'd probably suggest would be:

dusty mauve, vintage mauve, dusty lavender, wisteria, fog,

taupe, frost, silver, pewter, steel grey, hazelnut

dusty rose, champagne rose, vintage mauve, taupe and hazelnut

agave, dusty sage, eucalyptus, twilight, neptune

I'd add shades of gray for his family since he will be in gray. Have your family in shades of blue to coordinate or add a color like rust (and let them be in shades of that color). It depends on whether you like contrast. But a pretty light rust would be stunning with shades of silver/gray and blue.

Azazie has so many great MOB dresses in all their colors, so you can definitely find something awesome! I wouldn't worry too much if a couple of them are in the same colors. There are also colors that aren't blue but would coordinate well with a blue palette such as purples and neutrals.

Hi Kenzie! I also agree on keeping it easy and picking a few colors and letting the women get outfits in different shades!!

Shades of blue, grey, and purple would all look really good together! 😍

I found that when it came to my mom and other important relatives, it was much easier when I just told them my color scheme, and they decided what to wear on their own. My mother in law had an outfit in mind well in advance because it made her feel beautiful and didn't compete with what I was wearing. My mother was really careful to pick something that complimented my theme, and we enjoyed shopping for something together; she ultimately chose a green gown, same tone as my bridesmaids, but with a different fabric and cut. I would encourage all the women in your life to wear what makes them feel good, remind them gently of the atmosphere/theme you have, and offer to help if they want it.

My mom is gone, but my FH's mom is wearing a purple dress (I don't know the exact shade of purple), and my dad's girlfriend is planning to wear navy blue, which is also the color of my bridesmaids' dresses.
