Mother of the bride dress

My mom was looking for a dress before the shut down, and now she’s stressing (even though I assure her she has plenty of time). My mom was looking for a dress before the shut down, and now she’s stressing (even though I assure her she has plenty of time). She says “all mother of the bride dresses are either frumpy or look like [she’s] trying to pick up the best man.” I know she has some body/confidence issues, always has, but she’s starting to feel like it’s impossible to find something that fits our sunrise mountain wedding. I tried to suggest opening up her search to pantsuits or skirt/blouse combos, but she’s not keen on those suggestions. She’s also on a pretty tight budget, and I would totally buy her a dress if it was perfect, but I don’t have the money either and she would never let me.

Does anyone have suggestions for where to find affordable (preferably under $100) MOB dresses? Or pictures of what the MOB/MOG wore to your wedding (or plans to wear) for inspiration? I think she’s also having a hard time because so many of the models shes seeing are more like my age than hers and it’s hard to imagine what it will look like on her. I know she’s probably just going to have to try a bunch of things, but she really hates shopping for clothes, so hopefully I can make the process easier for her 🤞🏻.

Hopefully the photo isn’t too blurry, I’m taking a photo on my phone of a video. My mom and MIL got theirs at Macy’s I believe. It was a department store for sure. My MIL has on a hi-low dress, and my mom struggled the most trying to find her dress pants and a shirt that could go with it. She originally had a blue shirt, but I don’t think she tried it on at the store because she complained that it made her look big, so she wore her back up silver shirt she got at the same time.

EBay is a good idea, thanks! My mom loves eBay, but I don’t think she’s even thought of looking for a dress there.

Last time I was at Macy’s it was almost prom season so that’s mostly what I saw, but I also wasn’t really looking for my mom at the time. I’ll definitely tell her that other people’s mothers have gone with dress pants rather than a dress and see what she says. I’m not picky, as long as she’s not in jeans I’m good.

Good luck! I’m glad my FH’s “adoptive” mom (it’s complicated) hasn’t had any issues finding something, my sympathy with trying to find something for three moms!

Thanks! I would totally wear that burgundy dress! We’ll definitely have to check out Macy’s since they aren’t too far from us.

My mom and FMIL shopped online at belk, jcpenny, and dillards. They looked at cocktail dresses rather than mother of the bride dresses and found a lot of options. My mom ended up getting her's on sale for $35
