mother-daughter dance.. thoughts?

*~WiiFeY~*, on October 4, 2010 at 9:22 AM Posted in Planning 0 12

This might be one of those questions or ideas that have been brought up a million times, but so far I haven't seen it. Anyway..

I'm really close to my mother, and not so close to my dad. I've always thought it would be nice to dance with her at the reception also, as our way of kind of finally "giving me away" at the reception.. I'd dance with my dad too, because I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings. But then, I happened to have the radio on, and I heard the new Carrie Underwood song "Mama's Song" and its pretty much perfect..

Have you girls ever heard of mother-daughter dances? Is it too much to dance with FS, then Dad, then Mom? Plus FS and his Mom? I don't wanna bore everyone at the reception with all the dances lol

Oh, and someone mentioned that FS should dance with his mom while I'm dancing with mine, but this song doesn't really go for a mother-son dance..

I actually asked this same question on Friday! lol Everyone told me it was a good idea and someone said I should invite all the moms onto the floor with their daughters.

I think you should dance with your mom, it wouldn't be too much- how long is your reception?

Jessica- ha! I just looked up your post. Talk about a repeat Smiley smile Oh well, we think alike apparently!

Mrs. Jacques- I'm not sure how long yet. We've just booked the place and haven't signed the contract yet and discussed how long it can go.. But its not going to be a "short" reception. And FS's family loves to dance, so if they're allowed, they'll be there dancing all night anyway..

There are 2 new songs to listen to. "Every Mother's Dream is from a mother to her daughter and "To Be a Woman" is a tribute to a mother from her daughter. They are available at www.weddingmusiccentral.com.

My only concern with doing a mother-daughter song is... the more formal songs you have, the longer your guests have to wait before THEY get to dance. Just like with toasts, less is more. By the time you do your cocktail hour, dinner and toasts, your guests are going to be anxious to get the party started. Would you consider doing a mixed song where you start dancing with your father, and then your mother cuts in instead?

I did not have a "Mothers Daughter" dance, but during our dollar dance, my Mom and then my sister joined in and we danced for a while.
