MOSTLY ONE SIDED GUEST LIST: Feel a little weird/awkward

STBMrsRossi, on March 27, 2017 at 1:12 PM

Posted in Etiquette and Advice 45

I do not have many family or friends that I am inviting and most of our 50 guests are all his family and friends. Now i know this is our choice, however I feel like I am going to feel weird or awkward when the time comes. Anyone else not have many on their side as well?

The biggest portion of our guest list is his family. He has a bigger family than I do, and most of his family is less than two hours away. A lot of my family is spread out over several different states so they couldn't make it due to financial/health reasons. I love his family though, and I know that they are becoming my family as well so I'm not upset about it.

Of the 50 guests that attended our wedding, 10 were for my family, 10 were mutual friends, and 30 from his side. It doesn't matter, so what if you have a small family - once you get to the reception, everyone there is your family!

Same! I have a total of 10 people for my side. The rest are FH'S family and friends. Just don't have "sides" at the wedding!

We live in TN with his family but are having the wedding in NY where my family is because I am closer with my extended family. Therefore out of 100 guest only about 20 are solely his invites.

You're not alone! My family is big and very close and his is not. My guest list is ~110 and FH's is ~50.

I only have about ten family members coming when my fiancé has almost the entire family. It's difficult but know that quality outweighs quantity Smiley smile those who do come are there because they love you and want to celebrate you!

Yeah, he has way more friends than I do. No biggie, they're my friends now too.

Yep that is what is happening with my wedding. I believe it's because it's my second wedding and his first. It's more important to him.

I have this problem. I have about 43 sets of families and couples on my side, and my guy only has 18, and a lot of his will probably not show up. Things could be worse though; his sister at her wedding only had 7 guest on her side (just her immediate family) and her husband had the rest and there were about 50 people there.

When I went to my second cousin's wedding, the only people on her side included me, our aunt and uncle and their two kids, her grandma (which is my great aunt) her mom, and her step dad. Everyone else out of the like 70 people were his side of them family and a few of the bride and grooms friends.

I'm inviting 11 people from my side and FH is inviting 87 from his. He just has a lot bigger family and friends list. I know everyone he is inviting so it's not awkward to me. I like to Crack jokes about it that it's his wedding since I am inviting 11 people.

My FH grew up here and went to college here and I didn't. He has more local friends than I do so his side of the guest list is about 2/3. We are having everyone just pick somewhere to sit. We have to rent our chairs and there hopefully won't be any extra seats (hopefully no no-shows) so people should get the hint and sit wherever.

That's why we're having a sign for when the ceremony is happening! His side would have been heavier then mine! So this makes it easier!

I have my mom, dad, and brother. That's it. No aunts, uncles, or cousins. His family is huge. So yeah, we definitely will have everyone sit wherever they want during the ceremony lol.

80% of our guest list is FH's friends and family. I was worried about it at first but it doesn't bother me now. I honestly love his family much more than most of my own (that's another story) I was just more selective about who I wanted coming than he was

You have a couple of years yet. I would suggest that you & your FH start hanging out together with some from his guest list. I have a huge/local family & FH's family is mostly OOS so he's looking at his parents & his brother's family only. But FH & I have been together for years, so we each know 90% of the people that will be invited.

His more than tripled mine. I didn't want the seating to reflect that so we are asking people to sit together as we create our new family.

Almost 100 people and less than 15 are his fam...so no don't feel weird. Some people have large families. Some don't
