MOSTLY ONE SIDED GUEST LIST: Feel a little weird/awkward

STBMrsRossi, on March 27, 2017 at 1:12 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 45

I do not have many family or friends that I am inviting and most of our 50 guests are all his family and friends. Now i know this is our choice, however I feel like I am going to feel weird or awkward when the time comes. Anyone else not have many on their side as well?

My FH has a very large family. Our guest list is at 150 and only about 15-20 are my family. His family has yearly reunions so I have met most of them (although I don't remember half their names) which helps with the situation! I would definitely feel awkward if they were all strangers though!

I'm having the same issue. Most of the family invited is my fiancés family & I've only met a couple of them.

His moms side is down in Florida & we're up here in Oregon so I haven't had the chance to meet very many but I'm still excited about our wedding.

Over 80% of our guest list is my FH's family, but I'm with Nonna on this. Consider his family your family now - they're coming to support you as a couple, not just FH.

I don't think it will be a big deal Smiley smile families come in all different sizes. If you are worried about seating, sit families and friends on both sides, no one side for groom and one for bride

I've talked with my FH about this because he and his family aren't close, he parents aren't coming to our wedding and although his three siblings are, he hasn't seen two of them in over 15 years. He is closer with my parents then his own family. It will not be awkward unless you make it that way. Nonna T is absolutely correct, he and his family is your family now too.

We are seating everyone together, mixed up, no Bride side or Groom side lol now that i realize I am not alone in this i feel so much better! WW is amazing! It is soooo helpful to have people to talk to about things and get honest responses!

FH and I have the same situation. FH's family is significantly larger than mine. This became an issue with my mom, but is not an issue for FH and I. They will be your family soon.

My fiance is inviting several people I have not met before or only a couple of times at large events. My plan... if you have a lot of time between now and the wedding (and you live close to these people) encourage your fiance to make plans with them so everyone can get to know each other better before the big day. If this is not feasible due to distance or time ask your fiance to list out friends and map out a family tree with everyone's name and if possible a picture. If they are friends have him list how he knows them. This will help you remember faces so you can greet them warmly at the wedding. Remember they are attending because they love your fiance and as an extension will love you too.

On that day you probably won't even notice a difference. Be happy that they are all there celebrating your marriage. In the end, they will be your new family!

I have a very large family. I am not in contact with soooo many of them so I didn't feel I wanted them to be there on our special day. However I am only inviting those who are close to us and involved in our lives. We have a lot of friends that are taking up most of the guest list tho lol. My husband has very few family members locally so that's why he has a lot more friends to invite.

My FH is friends with every kid he played on the playground with in elementary school - hes got about 30 guy friends alone plus all of their wives. I have less than half of that. The guest list ends up close to even with our families but I get your feeling. I wanted a smaller wedding and we couldn't because hes not willing to cut guests.

We have 85 guests and probably about 50 of them are FH'S. I feel kind of weird because some of those people are from his step-dads side that he doesn't really know. So I'm still debating on not sending STD'S to them.

Over two thirds of our original guest list was from FH's side, but the people who are actually coming are almost an exact 50/50 split. So it might end up differently once you have RSVPs back! Like PPs have said, everyone is family at the end of the day Smiley smile

It's fine! At the end of the day, you guys will still be married and be around friends and family.

I'm kind of in the opposite boat. We invited 220 people. FH's side is 90, but they are all out of state, where the rest is my side and 90% are within a 45 minute drive (a lot are about 5 minutes away). We're only expecting about 150 guests to make it, with only about 40 from his side tops (although we are fully prepared to properly host if every single person came).

If you think the "sides" for the wedding ceremony will look weird, put up one of those cute "sit where ever you like" signs. I've been thinking about doing that, but not sure yet.

Of the guests we invited 160 are on my side and 60 are on FH's side. I have a huge family and he has a tiny family. It is what it is, it doesn't bother us

My sister had about 75 people from our side, her fiancée, now husband had about 7 people. He was worried about them feeling out of place or awkward but everything went fine! Once people have a few drinks in them it's a huge family affair Smiley smile don't stress! Everyone is there for BOTH of you
