Most expensive item on registry?

Happy In Hawaii, on September 22, 2014 at 8:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 58

What is the most expensive item you put on your registry and how much did it cost?

We are decently established and have a tiny apartment so we can't fit much, but we don't want a honeyfund and wouldn't mind some physical gifts so we're going to do a registry on Amazon. We're thinking of putting a waterproof camera on our registry, which would be really fun to use on our honeymoon. However, the one we want is $350. Obviously we'll have things at other price points but is $350 too much?

I don't think that's too much- it may be too much for one person, but often several people will go together on more expensive items. The most expensive gift that we received at my shower was a $135 lamp (the gift-giver also bought us a few other things, so her gift probably totaled $200 altogether with the lamp). That was just one person, though-- so I'm sure two or more people wouldn't mind collecting $350 for a gift.

It never hurts to put it on there; people just won't buy it if they don't want to spend the money. =)

Definitely not too much. I've seen freakin furniture on registries before lol.

I kinda went into a scanning coma when doing my registry because I didn't want to register at all. I don't know what's the most expensive thing on there and I haven't had the time to edit it yet and get rid of things. People are welcome not to buy something if they think it's too expensive!

We put a vaccuum on the registry - regular price is $399 but it goes on sale for like, $299 once in a while.

I put it on there mainly to get the completion discount if no one buys it.

I am not sure what's even on my registry but I know I have some big stuff. FI and I are starting fresh with pretty much nothing! We have never lived together and it's been over 5 years since I lived on my own so we need everything LOL. I will say, however, that it's ok to have some big items on your registry because people might be looking to go in on a gift together for you!

I think ours it a pet vacuum for around $400...I say go ahead and put it on there. Like FMZ said, the chances of people, especially friends, wanting to go in together on one of the larger items to make it easier on all involved.

Oh that's a good point! I didn't think of people going in on a gift together haha! I guess that's pretty common! I was thinking we should try to keep things under $200 because I couldn't imagine any one person spending more than that on us, but a group of people certainly could go in on a big gift. Yay!

I'm still interested in hearing other people's big ticket items!

Ours is a vacuum too, probably around $400. I figure it doesn't hurt to have an expensive item or two in case people go in a gift together. Also the completion discount that you can get if you have it remaining after the wedding.

My most expensive wish item was a kitchen aid mixer. I didn't actually expect to get it, but my boss bought it for me. You just never know who will end up feeling particularly generous!

No, I don't think that's too much. We put something that was $350 and we got it. My bridesmaids got together and bought it for us.

It's smart to have a bunch lower priced items as well as a few higher priced items. You never know who might want to get together and purchase a bigger gift!

I think our most expensive thing is a $200 vacuum. We've lived together for four years, so we have pretty much everything we need. We're using our registry to upgrade a few things, mostly kitchen stuff.

    Kitchen aid mixer $350

    Pots and pans $300

    Knives $200

All the women in FH's immediate family went in on the kitchen aid

Grandmother got the pots and pans. (She wanted to get us that when we got engaged so she was thrilled when I put it on our registry)

FMIL's rich best friend got the knives.

The most expensive item on mine is a Ninja Kitchen System at $299. Next is a carpet cleaner at $199. And then there are a few $99 and $89 items, a lot in the $39 - $59 range and bunch of small stuff also.

We have a lamp for $79 as our most expensive item. A lot of our guests are flying in for the wedding, and I don't want them to have to spend an arm and a leg on a gift.

Its good to have a range, people won't be offended or anything they just won't buy it if they think its too expensive. Ours was a set of pots and pans, $399.
