Money stress

Pookey, on December 7, 2018 at 11:16 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 29
So my wedding is in 17 months and even though we're planning major ahead for the wedding cuz we've been planning for 2 years now haven't planned out the honeymoon and just thinking about where to go and what to do and even just doing something simple cost so much money that it's such a headache. I don't honestly really want to do a honeymoon after doing all the calculations and seeing how much it's going to cost but I feel like if we don't go on a honeymoon or regret it for the rest of our lives. I mean you only get it one honeymoon right? Does anybody else understand what I mean or like feel the same way.? Does anybody else feel like a honeymoon is stressful well the planning aspect of it at least and the financial aspect of it.

I totally understand! We felt the same way... my FFIL gave us some airline miles so we got really excited and booked a 2 week trip to Italy, and then after a few weeks, realized this trip was going to cost us at least 8k, even with the flights being covered. Luckily, it was all refundable so we cancelled that trip and booked a 9 day honeymoon to Hilton head, SC which is a 12 hour drive from us, so that eliminates airfare cost, and I signed up for a credit card with bonus Marriott points, so now we have enough hotel points to cover 5 out of 8 nights of our honeymoon. Now our honeymoon in total will probably be costing us about 2-3k MAX, and that’s assuming we like truly go all out with fancy dinners, fun activities, etc.

You can totally do something simple and relatively close by for not very much money. And I 100% recommend signing up for a credit card that will get you hotel points (especially one with a bonus offer upon signing up... mine gave 75,000 bonus points if you spend 3k in the first 3 months)

Thank God I feel like I was the only one stressing over how much just trying to calculate it cuz we were going to go basically country jumping and I had it all calculator with the airfare and everything and ended up coming out to like 20 grand and we scratch that and then we decided we were going to go to Guam and that was going to be you know maybe 5K but even then that's so much money that we just don't have and I figured we could do something simple buy us cuz we live by Disneyland and we want to take a two-week honeymoon so I figured we could do no spend a week at Disneyland and maybe spend a week at Six Flags and even then just the prices for everyday fare for a week it just comes out too so much I mean we wouldn't even need a hotel room and still it comes out too almost you know do you know 2/3K

Since we are also buying a house around the same time as our wedding (which we are paying for in cash) we elected to do a mini moon to Vegas after the wedding and then will go on our honeymoon to London and France the following year for our birthdays.

Ahh yeah I understand! Is there anything else you could do in the area that isn’t the theme parks, because those can get pricey!

You don't have to honeymoon right away if you're stressed or money is tight. You can always take a "mini-moon" somewhere nearby for a weekend, and save and plan for a big honeymoon at a later date. That is what we're doing and that is what a friend of mine is doing as well.

This is what we did too. We got married last December and took a week off after the wedding for a local mini-moon. We just took our honeymoon in October. We spent a week in Maui.

I feel the same way! I'm doing what I can to reduce the wedding budget so we have more to spend on the honeymoon! I don't think a honeymoon is something that has to happen immediately after a wedding, but even a few days for just the two of you would be nice to enjoy your first days of marriage. No need to do anything major!

We did a mini-moon too. Our wedding & local reception went way over-budget and I figured we'd also be too tired for a European honeymoon. So glad we did the mini-moon!!! What about that so you can take off time from work but just spend a few days locally to rest & play, then plan for an official honeymoon on your 1st year anniversary?

We knew we wanted a nice honeymoon, but because wedding planning is time consuming, getting married is time consuming, and all of it is fairly stressful (and involves taking time off work!) we just decided to delay ours until we could afford to take the trip we wanted - both financially and time-wise. If planning the honeymoon is stressing you out like crazy, consider a mini-moon for now and do a "legit trip" in a little while.

I totally feel that way! I have plans set, but I haven't been able to start them because of financial restraints. I won't be able to put my plans and ideas into motion until the end of January, when my fiancee no longer has to pay child support, and he gets his income tax checks back. Our honeymoon is going to be in our state, partly for financial reasons, and partly because he can't get much time off from work. I don't feel like we're settling though, since the place were going I've always wanted to visit. Maybe try someplace in your state you've always wanted to visit, and going for a few days, then saving up for a once in a lifetime kinda trip later?

Depending on when I have to be back at work (teacher, getting married over the summer, moved states so we start earlier than back home) we may not be able to take a honeymoon right away. If we can, we may do just a couple nights somewhere between home (where the wedding is) and where we live now. If not, we may book a long weekend for Labor Day. We really want to do Disney but will probably save for a year or so and do it during the summer.

Plenty of people take their honeymoon later. And a lot of them say they enjoyed it better. They said they took a couple days after the wedding to just relax, either at home or maybe someplace close. They said they were able to enjoy the honeymoon more because they weren't so exhausted from all the chaos and stress of the last month of planning.

That is so smart why didnt i think of that. After the wedding we're moving so why not wait till we move and get everything in order then have it. That is so smart

So true the wedding is going to be so big that it will honestly be completely exhausted just planning it is exhausting I can't imagine how exhausting it's going to be the actual day of I'm hearing a lot about this Mini Moon and I like the idea of it just taking a couple days for us and then the year later on our one year anniversary go take like a real big honeymoon

Yeah I think that's what we'll end up doing like a little two or three day Mini Moon and then in a year after we are financially capable of it will go on an exotic honeymoon out of the country or something
