Mom/Grandma Corsage Alternatives?

Courtney, on October 17, 2013 at 10:44 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Flowers are low on my wedding priority list and I personally think corsages look silly. Not to mention most florists are pricing them at $20-25 per person! My mom doesn't want a corsage (but doesn't mind wearing one if we use them). FH's mom says she doesn't care either way. One grandma doesn't care, but the other three are likely expecting them.

Do I have to do corsages for moms and grandmas? If not, what could I do instead?

This is the favorite thing I've seen. But I'm lazy and poor, so I just went ahead with regular corsages. These can be made, and can be as affordable (fake flowers, etc.) or as expensive as you want.

That is a pretty cool bracelet! Putting it in my memory banks, Caitlin.

I'm not a fan of corsages either. That's the only thing I've seen (at least that I liked) so far.

What about a flower-shaped brooch for each mom/g'ma?

I got the wristlet at Hobby Lobby, bought two roses during the 50% off week and used hot glue, nothing fancy but I didn't want to spend that money either!

My florist actually suggested that I do boutonnieres for my mom and MIL because on the day of the wedding, they'll be shaking hands or hugging a lot of people and if they have a big thing on their wrists, the flowers will get destroyed very quickly. She made a very beautiful one for very cheap... $14 each (would've been $12 each but instead of using the traditional pins to attach it to the dress, my florist use magnets instead because I told her fabric on my mom's dress is delicate)

I am thinking of getting my Mom and FMIL flowers ( most likely artificial) to wear in their hair.

What about a bracelet? They could wear them for the wedding and then have as a keepsake.

And Caitlin - that is just a single football mum on a pearl corsage bracelet (you can get those bracelets at Hobby lobby for a couple of bucks!)

I'm making my ladies feather corsages with with a brooch in the middle. I haven't started yet, but they sound pretty in my mind.

I'm not doing corsages. I'm giving our moms clutches.

I turned brooches in to haircombs for the bridal party, and got similar ones that I left as brooches for the older ladies/parents to wear. Our florist is more of a flower vendor and while they'll wrap up bouquets for us they don't make corsages- and I don't feel like trying to make them the day of the wedding- so they will get brooches whether they wear them or not!

Pin corsages, wrist corsages, or they can hold mini bouquets!

I've been to several weddings where the moms wore boutonnieres instead. I thought it looked soooo nice. They were different from the men's of course.

I agree that the corsages usually don't last very long with all the hugs, handshakes and helping.

I bought these off etsy instead of traditional corsages.

What about letting them carry small nosegays? This is what I'm going to do since I'm not a big fan of corsages.

They could each carry a single stem of whatever flowers you are using, with a ribbon tied on
