MOH dress doesn't fit!

Laura, on April 17, 2017 at 9:04 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

So my MOH had been putting off trying her dress for so long and tried it on the other day saying it's not zipping up all the way lending me to believe oh it's just a quick fix at the top. This is not the case. I brought over all my goodies to help with that and when I went to zip it up in the back it didn't go past her hips. 10 days till my wedding, it's from Davids Bridal and I'm freaking out. What can be done?!?

Go to your nearest David's Bridal and see if they have one in her correct size on the rack. They can call other stores nearby to check if they don't have one there. Otherwise, you'll either need to find another dress for her (not that strange if the MOH dress isn't the same as the other BMs)

Why didn't she order a size bigger? Wow. Sorry you have to be dealing with this so close to your wedding.

Your best bet is to find someone who can let it out and get it done QUICK (which, hopefully it can be let out enough to fit) or find a gown off the rack or from a dept store. I agree with Olivia, it's her fault that she put off trying on the gown so if she can't find a suitable solution, she can attend as a guest. I would be so upset at my friend for doing that!

I'm only asking this becuase its a Davids bridal dress...does it not zip becuase it doesnt fit or does the zipper just not go up?

FSIL tried on her dress after alterations last night and 4 of us were fighting with the zipper for 20 minutes before we got it to up all the way. It wasnt her...it was just the zipper...we were able to hold it closed enough but David's Zippers suck!

I had the same problem with a zipper for a Bridesmaid dress that I had to wear a few years ago.

If you find a private seamstress they might be able to do a quick turn around. David's bridal also might have one on the rack. I'm so sorry this is happening to you!

Thank you everyone! Yes the zipper is tough and the clasp area doesn't give much reinforcement bc it's just the tiny piece of fabric. We are bringing on Wednesday with my 2nd final fitting. It is in fact a different color from all the other bridesmaids so I'm hoping they have some fabric similar to it? The dress also lays over the zipper up to the chest area so I'm hoping they can do something.

Well it's too late to try and loose weight, do not let her crash diet. Either find a seamstress to let it out or get one off the rack at DB. If it's a DB "quick ship" color meaning they already have the dresses made in that color, you may be able to pay more to get it in a week.

If there isn't enough fabric for it to be let out, you could think about adding a corset back rather than the zipper. It would make it different but gives more flexibility to the seamstress. Davids might sell fabric in yards, you could check into that as well.

I am not a fan of DB for this reason. They're dresses are horrible quality and you get into these situations. Sounds like it would fit if the zipper worked? I would go to store today not wait for Wednesday. If they can't do anything find a seamstress who can switch out the zipper quickly.

Who doesn't try on the dress once it comes in?! So weird. Since it's a different color than the other maids, I'd go find an off the rack dress for her if the seamstress thing doesn't work out. Prime prom season and you have 10 days left. Just be realistic. It'll all work out in the end, it always does.

Have a seamstress take out the zipper and give it a corset back

Since it's MOH the dress can be different I'd have her try to find a dress off the rack. Also try David's bridal too they may have a sample size they can sell you. You will find something don't worry.

Find a trusted dry cleaner that also does alterations and take the dress there! Have her tell them - do whatever you need to make this fit in 10 days. Any additional or rush alterations costs are on your MOH!!

Maybe she thought she was still going to be the same size for her actual wedding, she could have bought a size hope but how was she supposed to know, it even still could of been too big instead of too small
